There are many things that are considered so shameful to do in Kathmandu. We come to America and you realize, "Oh wow, you mean the whole world doesn't consider those things to be shameful?" And our mentallity changes.

Like for example, in Nepal, depending on what your job position is, you feel either shame or not. You come to America and you see Americans doing whatever work they do with great pride. In fact an American who tries to put other's down because of their job position would be considered snobbish and arrogant and would be unpopular around the people he behaves this way.

In Nepal, someone who has failed in studies or didn't get scholarships or whatever is looked at with great shame. In America, you can always go back to college. In fact, those who go back to college after having children in their 30's, 40's or even older are admired for their dedication.

In Nepal, all Nepalese feel the need to be so patriotic. A Nepali who is not patriotic would be considered very shameful. In America, you will find many American's going against and "hating on" their country in favor of other nations. Infact, there are many liberal American's who almost take a pride in being against what the government of the United States stands for.

I just wanted to start a thread on this topic. Can you think of anymore like the above?

What is shameful in Kathmandu is that women are not respected. We come out of Nepal and find out that the rest of the world does not disrespect women the way that Nepali men do.

rashika

I dont think you should have a sweeping generalization...times have changed a lot, there are nepali women in every field in nepal and abroad...Times were bad then it has gotten much better today and change of attitude takes time and literacy

You keep whining about nepali women being treated badly in Nepal...it happens all over the world and its bad in the usa too.  1 out of 5 women are mentally or physically abused.  I dont know what your plans are...do you plan to do sth about it or just keep playing that sorry violen in sajha?

of course there is no disrespecting outside in job positions but inside there is internal feelings. there are white collar job and blue collar job. of course if u are aged and u still work as cashier  or cleaner in walmart, macdonalds, people know that that person is a loser, but if young people are working they know they are students and are struggling thats the difference but still u might not see from outside expression but inside it still exists.

Nothing is shameful in Kathmandu anymore. The Gods left Kantipuri a long long time ago.

In the US, urinating out in the open is unimaginable (at least to me) let alone looking shameful.

Going against the government does not mean you are not patriotic. Believe in your country, not the government.

Else I agree with you, you call your relatives by name like mr. AbC in USA. Imagine you call your uncle mr. Hari in Nepal and feel how your dad mom or other relatives react,,,, they will go like "ooooooo.... What did you do just now, are u out of your mind?" every elder male is your uncle,,, lol
