I read this story on myrepublica.com
http://myrepublica.com/portal/index.php?action=news_details&news_id=22473

The state of Nepal has been deteriorating with lack of opportunities and increased poverty. Every so often I cringe to read news of mothers committing suicide and killing family because they don't have enough money to feed their children.

Today when I read this story, I felt a need to help out and when few other friends also urged me to do something about it, I wrote to the editor of myrepublica.com asking info on how to contact the mother so that perhaps we could help her out.

It is absurd for a hospital to keep a new born hostage but in any event we need support to get this unfortunate woman her daughter back

Hospital in India denies newborn to Nepali woman for not paying bill

UPENDRA LAMICCHANE

BIRGUNJ, Aug 24:
At Duncan Hospital in Raxaul, India, a newborn, who has been denied her
mother´s breast milk, has been wailing for 37 days. Her parents
returned to Nepal after being unable to pay delivery expenses. The girl
was born on July 15 at the mission hospital, where the walls are full of
Jesus Christ´s quotes.

sad but true, i think the family is so poor and the future of that baby is hell so its better if some christian missionaries take care of that child, at least he can grow up better and then reunite with the mother.

san bro,
It is a really good thought. I helped her already. Couldn't wait after I read it.कुनै पनि आमा लाई यस्तो हेर्न नपरोस्।। कुनै पनि नेपालीलाई जन्मेको पहिलो दिन् देखि बन्धक् हुन नपरोस्।

It is things like this that pisses me off when people are walking around with sign boards saying 'human rights.' Nepal is so poor, we cannot even afford human rights. Just walking around with a sign board does not do anything. If as Nepalese we cannot help people like this, then what is the point of simply talking of human rights?

A child born from a mother's body...something as natural as that. The baby belongs to the hospital corporation untill the money for her is paid.

I agree with Babalkahte, where are those NGO's, INGO's and other human rights organizations, all the people who are working on such organizations shame on y'all, tkaing money for y'all family benefits but not helping those who nedds the most, God will punish y'all someday I ain't worried.

This is what I was about to say. We have adequate numbers of NGO's INGO's established to work for needy people. I wonder what are they doing? I remember so called 'Ama Samuha'....Are those established only to get donations and feed their own people???wtf

Yeah the system is broken here, we need some organization to watch those NGO's and punish them if they don't perform their duty. Even people need to raise voice, what our people do is like its fine we have food so why worry abt others u know, but its not the life we should help and take care of each others in desperate times, these are our responsibilities too.

The NGO's INGO's are too busy making their portfolio pretty to submit for the inspection of special interest Western Donor agencies who can pat themselves on their backs and feel good about themselves for helping 'white man's burden'.

No body cares about poor Nepalis like in that news article. Everyone is just looking good for themselves.

It is true. Nepalis are getting hurt because our nation is weak. The above would not happen if Nepal was a strong nation.

I thought someone was working on getting the donation link. What happened?  Yes we have many issues,  and we can't rely on NGO's or GO's. However, we can always act on once case at a time. Rescue once child at a time. Just a few pennies at a time. Yes, it will take time, but we will get there as proud Nepali people, under one sovereign.
Lets get the baby home people. Please get us a donation link.

Apparently the mother has gotten the child back from the hospital after borrowing money from the her relatives, but the underlying issue is still there. There is abject poverty within Nepal which is not going away anytime soon. Millions of Nepalis are living in miserable impoverished conditions because of lack of infrastructure for them to grow mentally, socially and economically.

I don't know much. But I do know that it is people like MN_Nepali and SAN that make me proud to be a Nepali. I don't care for "official political leaders." For me, it is individual Nepalis like you that give me hope.

It's the power of media. The hospital gave the baby without making them pay because they were exposed by the media. As sandai said its indeed  good to hear the mother got her baby back but there are many more parents in such situations.
