We hear so much about India and how they will become power house someday, how true is it? Having a few call centers and IT guys, does that make them a candidate for the world stage?

Olympic and the world cup will not come soon to India after this though.

Its insane how the "first world" always perceive "third world". I am not backing India by any means but this thing is blowing out of proportion.

First they talked about South Africa not being able to handle World Cup, now they are talking of India not being able to handle Common Wealth Games. They will speak the same of Brazil in 2014 (WC)and 2016 Olympics. The level of hygiene and service the official from first world country ask from third world is some time unacceptable. They had problem in Germany too, but no one was saying like this. Hand on heart, third world is corrupt, dirty, but the norms they have are different than those living in first world.

I see it as a discrimination from the first word to third world. I will be proud if India can pull it and put a magnificent show. They do it all the time for international cricket and IPL, they will do it this time too.

Yeah, I do agree with gyanguru in many ways. But As, I see the pictures of the athletes village in New Delhi. Those were in miserable conditions. I know the western media they try to go too a little further but the conditions there were pathetic. And BBC had caption in their photos saying those were of this week.
Anyways As Rewire has pointed, this is the real test for India. Lets see how the things turn around in a couple of weeks.

Gyanguru bro, I dont know about SA and Brazil, but when It comes to India Its the REALITY. I dont think India can host such events when millions of poor Indians are starving and dying of minor sickness while India is the second country in the world after USA when it comes to producingSTINKING RICH Billionaires. recent studies stated India has the worlds most POOR people in numbers some 420 million. I dont know if India is aware of the situation or Indians are in denial. Thats how most of my Indian friends are, they think they are a rich country and they are very high class  specially. Personally I am enjoying this, truth hurts and Its finally world gets another chance to see the REAL INDIA.

yes 1st world countries discriminate third world countries, and thats wrong but I like when its done to INDIA, only because the Indian politics govern Nepal.

This ftrustration reflects on an Indian guy who writes on his blog, few days ago they are claimed as 4th powerful nation on the earth:  "This unhappy episode will have far reaching consequences for India Inc. It took India 50 years after independence to gain international respectablity. In one foul swoop, this hard won reputation has now been destroyed. We are now living in a global village. It would be hard for foreign governments and agencies to rely on the fullfillment of any contractual agreement with the Indian govt or corporate bodies or individuals. From now on an extra premium will be built into any future contracts. Shame on those responsible for this debacle. If CWG could not be delivered to specification, why promise it? Was it corruption or incompetency or both?. If true, those responsible should be given swift justice. China would have executed them on the spot. We are now the laughing stock around the world."

The irony - India can barely compete in International sports (beside cricket). Any given Olympic, they will be lucky to get a single medal. Look at the Chinese counterpart, they make athletes best in this world. Yet they were criticized for their "larger than life" display of their 2008 ceremony. Criticizing is nothing new.
I think it should have never been hosted in India in the first place. And the Indian radical Muslim groups can make big international headline if they target the tourist, which India needs to think about. Let's face is, India has serious security flaws.

India is not safe country to be, corrupt officials, faggot political and religious leaders, war with pakistan for kashmir ( taajmahal hotel rampage)  !!!! Delhi, bombay might be developed city because all capital gets deposit there, money rules those cities as you get a mile away from city boarder, its pityful. IF they cannot keep their own people safe, how the heck they will keep others. I would not stay in those shitty hotels.

India bribed 72 nations to get Delhi CWG: Report

India bribed 72 Commonwealth countries $100,000 each to get the hosting
rights for the scandal-hit 19th edition of the Games which will start in
Delhi from October 3-14, a media report claimed in Melbourne on
Thursday. A report in the Daily Telegraph claimed that Delhi pipped
Hamilton in

the bid after offering huge sums of money to the 72 Commonwealth countries during the final presentation in Jamaica.

The report also said that Australia received a kickback of $125,000 from India.

"Delhi sealed the right to host the Games when their delegates emerged
at the final presentation in Jamaica and offered all 72 nations $100,000
(then about $140,000) each for athlete training schemes if they were
the successful bidders," the newspaper reported.

"The money, subsequently paid to all nations, was not significant to
Australia because it had already decided to vote for India and the
payment was not an exceptionally large one.

"But for small nations who have minimal interest in the Games, it
clinched their vote and India went on to beat Canadian city Hamilton
46-22 in the final poll. Hamilton had offered the nations about $70,000
each," it said.

Let's not be bias. They do not have co-ordination, they started construction work in 2008 and they sit doing nothing for 3-4ears. They thought it is a renovation of Nehru stadium but it has a complete new construction.

Most sad part is sanitation. Most bathroom and toilet has huge problem. The village is built in the bank of Jamuna river, and it had flooded and affected the village made double work and extra clean up. Resources are not utilized fully and they are playing a game as their politics.

The pictures shows the story. But still I will be surprised if they do not pull it together. They have the man power and the ruthlessness .... they will turn the whole thing upside down !! I know they have less than 3 weeks.. but I am sure they will.

About India having the most poor people in world.... I guess percentage should have been looked not the number... with over 1 population every number will be big !!!!

About comparing Indian sports with Chinese.... yes they are far too behind.... they should be doing better... and I will not be surprised if China starts playing test cricket in next 10 years... they are spending billions in it !!! I cannot see India doing the same but India are  5th in the all time Commonwealth medal table... so they are strong nation in that group... but in Olympics they are no better than Bhutan !!!

For Indians only Cricket is the only game they know and care,  rest does not matter. Someone pointed out poor communication and co-ordination are the reasons.
No value of time and sense of urgency. Yes they have manpower but just putting them unwisely will not turnout productive.
Some process can be overlapped, should be in the process otherwise you will be trying to run Office 10 with window 98 operating system( ha ha).
