Remote villages turning e-villages

HETAUDA, Oct 16:
E-village program, with the help of wireless computer network, has been
launched in the remote villages of Makwanpur to provide local people
and students with the access to information, education and health
services.



The program was begun in the initiative of Makwanpur District
Development committee in the support of Magsaysay Award winner Mahabir
Pun.








Constituency Development Program, E-Network Research and Development Nepal and local schools are supporting the program.



The wireless network has been connected with Nepal Telecom´s tower, stationed at the top of Mahadev Hill.



The program aims at providing local people information about
telemedicine and education services with the help of telephone, email
and internet, Local Development Officer Yubaraj Subedi said.



The program has provided its services to Mahendra Higher Secondary
School, Chhatiwan, Janak High School, Bhirkot, Janata Higher Secondary
School, Phapharbari, Bagmati High School, Raigaun, Kanti High School,
Thingan, Buddhi High School, Hattisunde, Janapriya Higher Secondary
School Hattiya.



Five schools that are getting service under this program have also
received program that distributes laptop to each student and all these
electronic gadgets have come under the scope of the wireless network,
Information Officer at District Development Committee, Makwanpur, Ajaya
Bartoula said.



The program is now providing telemedicine services, in trial, by
maintaining wireless network between Hetaunda Hospital and Kathmandu
Model Hospital.



District Development Committee, Makwanpur is preparing to implement
e-governance in the area with the help of wireless network and provided
training to its office staffs and secretaries of different VDCs. The
Committee is also aiming at providing e-commerce service to farmers of
the area for helping them to sale their agro-products online.
