73. From past surveys and records, an orchard owner in northern Michigan has determined that if 26 apple trees per acre are planted , each tree yields 500 apples on average the yield decreases by 10 apples per tree for each additional tree planted . How many trees should planted per acre to achieve the maximum total yield? Sub- Math Level- Pre-calc. Chepter-Polynomial and Rational functions I went to a tutor and I saw sweat on his teeth.. Please if you can ... help...

38 Trees 38*380= total of 14440 Apples!!
37*390=14430 and 39*370=14430

26 * 500= 27* 490= .... ...
If you can derive your equation :-)

i may be wrong but I think to maximize or minimize, the possible way is either derivative or linear programming. I could not find proper constraints for linear programming. I have forgotten many things about this method.. But I believe in God not in religion....when I have the final answer, i am not worried about the path :)
Maximize: (500-10x) (26+x) where 26+x = number of trees x=12

Thanks khoikkhoik and V2001 , I had required equation of parabola(in x2 form) then I can do in my way ... f(N)=-10N2+760N after getting this equation I solve like this vertex(N)= -b/2a = -760/-2*10 = 38 ans (By the way, derivative is also another way but I have to solve by this method......) also V2001's idea is also great... anyway thanks for discussion ....... Comingsoon, As you said, derivative is NOT the another way. Your equation is derived from the derivative method
