the only option i see is, go get another degree that is useful like hospital administration....but the million dollar question is, are you going to get job and sponsorship with that degree?

And status can b maintained by studying what you are interested in and has passion about it.

I can see smart ass comments but what do you expect when you ask such a question. Is this the time to ask this question? I mean you spent 4 years of your life to get something and NOW you are asking what or how you are getting?

This is a problem with many Nepali students. They take whatever course they want just to remain in status. When they graduate they complain and go into depression for not getting a job. If you had spent a little time planning and picking up the right majors you wouldn’t be in this situation. My advice is not to go for a liberal arts, political science degree unless you are totally passionate about it. Go with a technical one.

Now, back to your question. What are you going to do? Well, I’d advise you to start looking for internship. Call up/email different health firm and hospital for an opportunity. Even if you get unpaid internship take it, do a parttime job on the side. This will be the tough years of your life but once you get your feet wet it gets easier. Health Science is not a bad field, Health care field is booming so I suggest you to not give up this field. If nothing, apply for a masters degree, this time in more specialized Health care field. There are MBA and Masters in health care field, do some research.

You have spent 4 years of your life, if you do nothing that will goto a waste. Give it a last push for next few months and enroll in a masters program if you don’t get a job. This time do more research, talk to career counselor before picking a major. At least you haven’t quit yet and that’s a big thing. Good luck.

hey super note

dont loose heart...ull be all right ...dont listen to all these mean and nasty ppl...you did what you had to do and got a degree..but remember your degree only speaks a part of who u are...to make a career u have to be at the right places at the right time....if nothing u can look into entry level positions in any healthcare related companies..depends which city u live in and your networks/connections. this may not be a relevent comparasion but some of my American friends have a degree in Anthropology with thesis in Evolution of Beer or something like that...he is holding a job in a financial institution now...lot of ppl who have degree in sociology have gotten into the Indian company bandwagon and now hold a high paying IT job....so give your best shot to present your best to potential employers...geting a job may not be as hard as u think once you have OPT..but now do make better choices and follow the money, not passion :)

i believe you need at least Master degree in your major to get respected job and easy path to settle in USA. But, education in USA is too expensive beyond any justification..

Don't give up. Things do not work out all of sudden, make plan, keep calm and be optimistic. Best of luck.

Go to Nepal and make use of it. it has a higher value in Nepal in NGO / UN based organization. if you start from the scratch and climb the ladder all the way up, there are lots of opportunity and money.

the million dollar questions, you do want to back to Nepal.

nas bro ...i am well aware of the econimic situation and know how grim it is. But you can only afford to be pessimist once you get to where you want to be( assuming you have a good paying job and are an american citizen now) . If you are still trying, you have to be optimistic and keep on going...it is highly frusterating to be in that line at job fair and kno that there is 1 in 500 chance to land that job but ppl are still standing in the line still. All i am trying to tell Supernote is that she can start a temp job or soemthing .....to get a high profile job in a managerial level for a fresh out of school ppl is out of the question right now.

Ya i am also against going back to school to acquire another stupid degree to rack up more debt and stay in status.

There are still jobs out there. 14 millions Americans are out of jobs does not mean u have to wait for all those 14 millions to get jobs before u start looking. Most of my American friends are happy with unemployment checks and they are not looking. They watch tv all day and treat it like a vaccation a long one.don't forget unemployment rate is around 40 percent in Nepal but u can still find a jos sooner or later if u have a degree. Unemployment rate for degree holders is only like 4 percent too in the usa too.u know for african americans it is something like 15 percent and for asians its like 6 percent.u all need to listen to npr maaaan.

I have been telling you guys to get a degree in Technology like IT, Computer, Maths/Statistics etc to get a job in this country.
Bachelor degree in Health science is nothing more than getting I.Sc from Tri-chandra College....Nothing in this country with that degree. It was a waste of your time and money. You ruined your life.
The only solution is to get a different degree in graduate school or get training from Dhoti Consultancy and become QA engineer.

Good Luck

Thank you guys for your precious time and great suggestions. Some of them are useful information but some are not. i do not think that i wasted my time and money getting a degree. "मुर्ख साथी भन्दा बिध्वान सत्रु जती" . I did not spoiled my time working 18 hrs with 1.0 or lower gpa. But i got modern knowledge better with good GPA. I am not screwed and i did not waste my time in vain but utilize it in different way at least sticking in what we are here for. I know lots of friend who had quit school because of financial and other problems. I wanted to do something better than nothing so i continued to study health science.
i was interested in medical field but chose to continue in health science. this help me to be near to my interest though i could not continue medical studies completely. i got knowledge of lots of things during that four year period. i achieved 2 associate degrees and 1 bachelor degree in health science with healthcare management and biological science minors. I dont want to go nepal yet, i want to finish my master and then i will go.
I really appreciate you all reading this thread and adding some input.
thank you again,
SN
