Some Nepali folks seem so eager to relate so called Janaandolan II with current revolution of Egypt. They need to understand how Egypt’s revolution is fundamentally different than so called Jana andonlan –II.

  1. 12 points agreement, –was signed in Delhi not Nepal, so  Jana Andolan –II is not indigenous movement, as the plan is hatched by Indian and SPAM war lords just to throw the king, but not to have true democracy.
  2. People who took to the street at that time, largely due to fear and coercion of Maoists. Nor majority of them were educated. Educated youth especially the middle class remain inactive including leader of major political leaders such as K P Bhattarai, Sailaja Acharya, Pradeep Giri and so on, who spent their entire life for democracy and freedom.
  3. Recent wikileaks clearly stated how India heavily invested for the andolan.
  4. Most importantly, we can judge the present situation,- where is democracy? Where is constitution? –how come 601 revolutionary democratic people completely failed to draft a constitution?

I can go and add on more points, but all I am trying to say is so call political movement of 62/63 was conducted at the behest of India, and failed political leaders just wanted to take revenge with the king.

Let us look at the Egypt’s movement.

  1. It was started with social networking sites, used by educated youth-unlike nepali’s uneducated college dropped out leaders.
  2. No external forces was behind it, even US the powerful nation was initially not in a favor to remove Mubarak, in the end it had to support the people, not its long time allies Mubark.
  3. After Mubark stepped down (kind of fled), patriotic force army took over as a transitional force and army promised they will facilitate democratic transition, unlike in the case of Nepal, alleged dictator king, ironically, democratically left the palace with dignity, and  after that bunch of tyrants took over the power.

Even though we have yet to see how this revolution will transpire in future, but certainly it is not like Nepal’s ignorant’s movement (called it whatever) sponsored by India. We are just a victim of our political incompetency and greater conspiracy.

In our case, People are betrayed big time yet we like to be politically correct, oh yeah hurry we have dethrone 240 old monarchy… if that would have been any achievement our quality of life would have got improved , 5 years is long time in 21st century.  So are we really better now –if so, how /what we have now?

Kudos Shantipriya great analysis !
Well in fact our unrest was done by the incompetent party leaders and their cadres to get them into power and again loot it whatever was remaining whereas it seems their revolution was done by educated youth who would really want the change against the existing tyranny and corruption.
Bottomline, In this age of internet and electronic media, YOU cannot hide your misdeeds anymore, so better try to learn the lesson.

" used by educated youth-unlike nepali’s uneducated college dropped out leaders."

yeah you right in all but the above line is incorrect, at that time even highly qualified engineers and doctors were on street protesting, and all tha NRN people around the world , highly qualified and educated were supporting the andolan.

They all knew that they (leaders) signed 12 point agreement with maoist in India, i also participated in that andolan, but if i had known that the coutry will be in this situation and all the leader will be "kukurko puchhar" i would not have gone at all.

One other thing that i learned, i might be wrong though, kings are never "tanashah" the people are tanashahha. Gyanendra stepped down after 18 days leaving everything that he had from Narayan hiti. After the government was formed "Madesh Andolan" started and about more than 30 people were killed, girija did not resined nor did krishna prasad sitaula.

I am sure if Maoist comes in full power prachanda will not resign no matter what happens, he will not care even 1000 people dies.

so my conclusion is king loved his country and countryman more than this wahiyaat neta.

@ Zim, I did not mean to say all but majority are certainly not educated. I understand how you are feeling now having participated that andolan. I participated 2046 with the same kind of spirit,  for me it  did not took me long to realize that these leaders are just puppets. Even during the 2046, I remember chandra shaker's speech in basantapur, how stupid were we to applaud him. Whether we opt panchayt or democracy should have been our choice, and political system of our country unfortunately have never been our choice. Perhaps, King Mahendra only was little successful, we got into UN thanks to him else we would have been another Sikkim.  Gyanendra did try, but India has become too powerful already, so he failed, not because he was tyrants but because he could not please india.  I know patriotism is  only about not anti-indianism, but pro-indianism is absolutely  not patriotism and nationlism. So my conclusion is also no different that yours. Just read on another thread how citizenship is being distributed now, we will see Mahendra Chaudhary of Fiji very soon in Nepal,  Baban Singh is already there..shhhhhhhhh.
