I had an emergency work (death of close family member) in Nepal and had to go to Nepal in hurry. I asked permission from my advisor, department head and international advisor before i left. I now have Chicago airport as POE. I am working as teaching assistant in the department but my I 20 does not show that as I got the position after I got the I 20. My I 20 is the extended I 20, i.e. I had to finish my masters degree a semester ago but due to my incomplete thesis, I had to extend it. My extended I 20 now expires in December 2011. I have only worked in campus legally. I heard that people are getting deported from chicago international airport. Should I be worried? I am even thinking of changing POE , but it is expensive . I would be grateful if you could share if you know something about this and give suggestions. Thank you. cul_boy

No worries bro..unless u finish your degree program no body at entry can stop u. and ni case of ur school work, as long as they pay in check and cuts some tax from school u don need to panic on that. anyone working at school should be informed to ins from school and there is no issuance of i-20 for on campus job

Cul_boy, I had a same situation. My  I 20 was for 3 years in masters program. Due to my research problems I could not finished my degee in 3 years and extended my I 20 for one semester. During this time I had to go Nepal for some important works and went this december with new extended I 20. I spent around one months in Nepal. My POE was Chicago. Immirgation officer did not ask any unusual questions in POE. Just some academic questions. It was just 2 minutes. Do not worry if you have valid I 20 with signature from international affairs you are in safe place. I even did not have letter from advisor, international officer and departmental head. I think you should not be worry about it.
Good luck

Thanks guys for your suggestions....  my concern is also that I came to Nepal at middle of the semester.. though I won't miss any classes as i have taken only research and thesis credits.. will it be a concern? and also, i don't have letters from advisor, department head and international advisor, just took their permission. I have updated signature in my I 20.
