"Katawal has cobbled together various known and unknown outfits and individuals from across the country, including police deserters, former Maoists and royalists, to form the party"

DHANGADI, APR 14 -

Former Nepal Army (NA) chief Rookmangud Katawal is planning a political career for himself.

Katawal is scheduled to make a formal announcement of his political journey and unveil his party dubbed the Samyukta Rastriya Manch on May 13 at a function that will be held in Dhangadi.

Katawal has cobbled together various known and unknown outfits and individuals from across the country, including police deserters, former Maoists and royalists, to form the party.

Chandra Sawad of the committee preparing for the May 13 function said at a press meet on Wednesday that the party was formed with the objectives of safeguarding national sovereignty and nationalism; advocating peace and development, and launching a national campaign for the protection of the country and democracy.

The Katawal-led Samyukta Rastriya Manch “is needed,” Saud said, “as the present political parties proved incompetent in the peace and constitution writing processes.”

He said that the country needs another popularly mandated force and that the Katwal-led party aspires to become that.

Mr. Katwal, had he wanted, would have enforced military coup. But the fact he chose a more democratic platform to lead the country tells me that he is not only morally conscious (that I am not sure) but is certainly a person with farsights (he knows a coup wouldn't last w/o international support which wouldn't be there).

I hope he paid enough attention while chosing his cadres, don't make the same mistake Gyanendra made.

I thought Maoists were arch enemy for Katawal but now he is forming a party with ex maoists. I guess all is fair in politics for the leaders. Its the people who think they have differences and kill each other for those differeces.

With the growing frustration among common Nepali People about the way the country is being run by the existing parties any New Parties or Leader will definitely be a big hit. The BIG question is will katwal STANDOUT in the mass of illiterate, corrupt and culturally sick mentality politicians? Is his thinking different from the thinking of our so called DADDY generation? Will he bring the change we are all so desperately waiting to see? if YES then this is a good begening.. Though I doubt its him.
