I have seen few Nepalese organizations coming forward to honor Ms. Anuradha Koirala, after she was awarded Hero title by CNN.

Do our Nepalese organizations have to wait for other international organizations to identify our own heroes? Before she was honored by CNN other Nepali organizations didn't give a damn but now they are all coming out to honor the honorable.

There must be many heroes in Nepal who we need to honor to show the path, provide hope and to encourage heroic activities. We should not wait for another 100 years for CNN to identify another Nepali hero.

Good point but to answer your question, you have to ask why the organization here are really honoring anybody. It is to associate the organization and the personnel involved to a famous person; i.e. not to benefit the honored but to benefit the honoring.
I have distanced myself from much of these organizations as primary reason of their existence is for the executives to gain social status within the Nepali community here and back home.

See the pictures how many YOUNG GENERATIONS OF NEPALESE went to hear Ms. koirala's speech in DC.
See the pictures how many YOUNG GENERATIONS OF NEPALESE went to Deepak Bajracharya's concert in DC Bar.

Even after getting CNN Hero award, young generations do not have interest to hear from her live.  Forget about other unknown heros of Nepal.

Yeah I wonder why she is travelling all over the US to be honored by these self serving organizations. I think she is more needed in Nepal, but I suppose she deserves a vacation sometimes.

So that the people like you and me who don't want to go to Nepal and just backbiting organizations and people who are bringing her to the mass at least can see and hear her untold stories from her own mouth.

Why miss world and miss universe travel all around the world after winning the title?  It is the same. She is telling about her vicimized girls. Not all organizations are bad. People like Bishnu Maya pariyar, Pukar Malla and many young generations are working for good causes despite bad political situations in Nepal. You should have the power to LEAD, not just backbiting. RESEARCH before saying anything. THIS IS WHAT AMERICA TAUGHT US (RESEARCH) ;)

Nepal le ta kehi sikayena sikayena, aba America le ta kehi sikayo hola ni? Ki America le pani?

EVERYTHING HAS BAD AND GOOD SIDE. It is the nature of people to backbiting.(GOD GIFTED TO EVERYONE).  Tito Satya

A lot of so-called Nepali Associations are there to make redundant parties on Monday evenings, for instance, New Year's Parties for both December and April but not to provide even a reasonable assistance to Nepali newcomers in their communities. These associations are often headed by individuals who hunger to see their social status rise in the community as Stiffler mentioned. Moreover, they are mostly transactional managers but not transformational leaders.

Had they been "real leaders" they would somehow be the first to identify and honor the great deeds of Ms. Koirala. The felicitation program held last Sunday was an example of being a follower not a leader. Before bashing just this association, in all fairness, I am certain there are no other Nepali associations that attempted to honor Ms. Anuradha Koirala before CNN Heroes did.

MNO you talk big talks about learning in US and doing research but you invalidate your big talks by "LIKING" your own post. That's so lame that it ridicules your so called US education, for giving kudos to yourself. Kosaile praise garosh nagarosh afai praise garera aafai thulo ani aafai janne bujhne. Badhai chha timro samajhdaariko nimti.

Is that what america taught you? Praise your own self? Vote for yourself. Make you look like you're popular. Funny stuff.

Last Sunday program, one women ogranization lead the program, other organizations followed and helped that organization to honor Anuradha Koirala. I did not say all organizations are good. Just a handful. The organizations who cannot lead were allowed just to follow in Sunday program. Tiniharu le lead garna sakena ra ta follow garnu paryo ni. lead garna sakya bhayeta Program ekdam khatara bhai haltyo ni.

Teti bhaye pani garyo tyo neta haru le. :) . Natra ta teti pani gardaina. Nepal ko neta k neta, Americako nepali neta tyo bhanda khatara cha. Hajur hajur garnu parne hahaha. Change will happen if young educated generation come out and  show their power to these netas. It takes long time for a change but it will happen.

Ek jana le ta afule afulai Anuradha lai jitauna DC area ma prachar prasar garne he is the first one bhanera khub vasan garya thiyo. malai ta Facebook le garya bhanna mann lagya thiyo. haha. There are people like him too. But there are many educated people who helped for the program.

Program was more honouring to these 22 organizing organization and letting attendents know their names and read their facilitation letter what a crap can't make it short and sweet seems all villages and family have leader here to represent each county its bad we all can't sit under single orginazation and unite.
Good thing to honor but 90% of program was joke to people who came to hear from her and not to all these thute neta who has all them by themself and their few friends and family in their orginazation.

Mno:

"Education is what makes you powerful to speak."

What do you mean by "education" or "educated"?

In your book, which one is more knowledgeable?

Person 1: A SLC graduate who started from scratch, a successful and socially-responsible business and ran it for twenty years.

Person 2: A graduate with a Bachelor's degree who has been convicted of a serious crime and has been in solitary confinement for the last twenty years.
