From what I have read and heard here’s my conclusion:
-
Unless and until the ANA-Boston convening team come forward, major blame will goto the main convener of the convention and the Boston committee. I have hardly heard anything from their side, now that the convention is over they have gone to an oblivion, an easier yet cowardly route.
-
ANA is not blameless. Let’s face the fact, other than the convention, ANA hasn’t done much except for few miniscule social projects in Nepal. As an executive team their major responsibility thus lies in successfully hosting the convention. We understand that the president (and VP) had given the convening powers to other group as is done typically; however if the other group is not coming forth- it is the exec committee’s responsibility to pick things up..not just future works but also the past. There are many vendors and artists who are still unpaid for all their service and trouble; ANA has to answer this and CANNOT say it is not our responsibility or defer it to Boston team.

There clearly is a big divide in ANA team; one supporting the current team and the other supporting past teams. Even the election result that was already declared was null and voided by the present team. This is deplorable and pathetic. Why is everybody so hell-bent on clinging to the power? It seems both parties want the power badly, then don’t forget: WITH POWER COMES RESPONSIBILITY. Assume the responsibility. Can Obama say that the war was instigated by the past president so it is not his headache?
Behind it all, however, the biggest issue is the bylaws. ANA claims to represent thousands of Nepali diaspora in America, yet the exec committee is very exclusive. A general member cannot run for the exec committee, what the heck?? Elections are done hush-hush; if this doesn’t become more inclusive ANA doesn’t have much future.
Term for the ANA’s present team will end soon (actually ended last week, but they are still there). Obviously the two factions want their supporters to take over. I ask that the team rise over their differences, ammend the bylaws and make the election open. They have to go beyond the convention platform as well.
If the above recommendation is not implemented, I don’t sense ANA being anything but an annual sports and party event. Even that can be replaced by regional (East, mid, south, west etc) get-togethers. NRN is not far behind.
Smart up!!
