In a sari and feeling fiiiiine

I have a theory on how to spot the pakka Nepali guys – ask them what a woman looks most beautiful in. The pervs will suggest women who are scantily clad, the wanna-be hip and modern youngsters might possibly suggest skirts and Korean inspired fashion, but a tried and true Nepali man will not hesitate to say a woman is the most lovely in a sari.

I’ll be honest, I don’t wear them much, in fact, I could count on one hand the amount of times I’ve worn a sari in the last few years. But every time I’ve decided to wrap myself in the meters of colorful, decorated fabric, I feel like a lady.

When you’re used to wearing jeans and flats like I am, the heels and pleats take a little getting used to but maybe it’s the slight awkwardness in wearing a sari that makes me act more refined. I walk more proper, I act more demure, my posture is better, and all of a sudden I’m far more socially presentable!

Of course, this may not be true of women who wear sari’s on a daily basis, and I’m sure those who hike them up to cross muddy waters would disagree, but to me sari’s are linked with class and glamour. Since I just about wear them exclusively to weddings and fancy events, saris to me are the Nepali equivalent of black tie event attire.

And with the range of fabrics and designs, saris are worthy of their own fashion week! There are so many styles and sari concepts that I’ve seen (on and off the runway) that I’m impressed by the innovation. The colors, patterns, cuts, blouses, and the way they’re worn – there’s a sari for every day and every occasion.

On top of being beautiful, I find saris ingenious. I wonder who came up with the method of covering most of the body without using zippers and buttons or buckles. Wrapped, folded, pleated, and draped the sari has the dual ability to be modest while still sensual. It’s no surprise that true Nepali men like to have a sari clad woman on their arm because I’d have to agree, there is something about a sari that is incredibly feminine, elegant, and sexy.

Saani has no real goals and aspirations but she sees opportunity in everything and goes with the flow. This is probably because she loves exploring and discovering. She writes for fun but for the same reason she also cooks, reads, and spends a lot of time on random websites that offer a chance to learn all sorts of tid-bits on life.
