It was sad to see the list of Nepalese in the thread of famous Nepalese in the United States. It was sad how few names there were.
It goes to show that us Nepalese have a long way to go even in bringing ourselves up in the land of opportunity: the United States of America. Maybe one of the things that we lack is a strong network of support to bring each other up, instead of putting each other down.

The Raja Rajaratnam case shows how far and wide the Indian 'white collar mafia' stretches. Indians are using their strong network in their community to their advantage in many different industries. But the main ones are Financial Investment  (insider trading) and Information Technology ( with their "consultancies" ).

But the Indian social network also produces very strong communities as well.

LOL. OK OK bro. Yes he is Sri Lankan. That is my bad. But the money he made was from being very well-connected with the Indian network. I hope you can see the bigger point I am trying to make.  The point is, "You tell me the strength of the friends in your network ...and I'll tell you how powerful you are."

The point is that we Nepalese need to see the bigger picture and make our social network in America stronger instead of finding the smallest faults in each other to put each other down. Look at the ANA. It is an example of Nepalese not being able to get along because of putting people down over the smallest things. This makes the morale on the group go down. And then no one wants to invest in the group because they don't feel secure.

We Nepalese come to America and find fault with the politicians in Nepal. We think we are enlightened and the politicians in Nepal don't know anything. But our mentallity hasn't changed. So we are doing the same stupid mistakes in a country like America that our politicians are doing in Nepal. Sometimes it seems like we have not learn't anything despite being highly educated and working professional jobs in top companies in America.

So instead of just being threatened by and criticising the Indians, Sri Lankans, Pakistanis or who-ever, let us learn the good things from them and use it to make our Nepali network stronger. We need to change our own mentallity first before we criticize the world and find fault in everyone else but us.
