Hi frens. I recently got a social security card so my credit is 0 I guess. I wanted to know what kind of credit card should I apply for In order to have a good credit built up. I applied to chase bank credit card and was denied. They cited lack of credit information being the reason for my denial.
Can someone please give me good information or personal experience regarding a situation like this.
Thanks in advance frens

You wont get credit approval if you dont have credit score or prior credit card. Best bet for you would be apply for Bank of America secure card. You have to  deposit initial fund of 200 to 500 dollars. It sounds like debit card as you are using your own money but its actually a credit card which will create credit history with due course of time. You can still keep the credit card  though. After one year you can request for money back and by that time you will have some sort of credit history to apply for another card.

Where are you located? Wells Fargo issues a CC w/ a limit of $500 to all account holders.

To build credit, I'd suggest that you swiped your credit card for almost all your purchases. Don't use more than 60% of your limit though. I'd just transfer the money from my Checking/Savings account to pay off the expenses and try to avoid Finance Charge. After 5-6 months, I'd talk to my personal banker to increase my limit. After a couple years, I'd apply to one or two more companies (not together but w/ a gap).

Good luck.

Also, remember - Bad credit is better than no credit. If you're serious about living here, you gotta make sure you have a decent credit.

superman91, you don't get credit card right away. When I got mine, I started to work and as soon as my first paycheck came, I tried to open up an account with my bank, they denied me outright. Then, my aunt who had an account with the bank, I was referred by her and finally got in with the minimum balance on the account. So, I got my debit card and checkbooks mailed in to me within next 1-2 weeks. Over the course of 5-6 months,I accumulated pretty good saving. I think during one of those visits, one of the reps suggested me to get CC and I said okay. I made a selection and they're saying all those interest rates and credit back stuffs, which I didn't get but anyhow I got one.

I've my score over 750 which is pretty good if not the best.
Once you get your credit card, always stay below 20% usage. If you want to accelerate your credit score.
Say if you get $500 credit line, you don't want to spend more than $100. Just stay in within that line and see how your credit score will rise up. I know it doesn't make sense but this is how their math works. I've taken classes on these things from my college and now I'm the trustworthy citizen of this country with solid credit score. Always try to stay below $100(assuming $500 is the credit limit) for first few months, then as time progresses, you can go upto 50% but just make sure to pay it in time. That's how it works. Once you'll get your credit score risen up.

Then go for American Express. This is the best credit card I've ever had, highest return and sooner. They've twitter account and it's a blessing for techsavvy folks like me. People are friendly over twitter :D

You can also check your credit score for free once a year, it's a federal law. If anyone interested on that, I'll write more later on.

And, don't get more than 2 CC(preferably Visa and Amex) , if you are really serious about your credit score. You'll understand these things slowly.

Awesome tips frens. I already have that capital one credit card. I applied for one without a social a few years back and they gave me a card. I have a $1000 credit limit on it. But the thing is that when I got that card I did not have a social so they do not have my social no. On their record. At least that's what I'm supposing. So what if I pay all the balances I have due and then apply for another credit card from another bank. Will it help my credit worthiness if i pay off the balance on my capital one card and then apply for a new card at some other reknowned bank.
More suggestion needed frens.
Appreciate everyones participation thus far.
