Can anyone suggest me some of the tricks can be used to get a website to the first page of google search results? I am working for a social organization that is serving to Nepalese community here in US and we want to get connected with people in back home through our website so that we can help them if they are visiting our area for whatever reason.

 Not an expert or anything but I doubt it can be done for free. The company that I worked for paid thousands of dollars for this purpose alone. So much so, the site wouldn't even show up when you entered the entire company name. 

Maybe some gurus will advise something better and desirable. 

SEO takes time, use good selection of keywords, submit to search engines, exchange links and may be in 3-4 months you'll start seeing the result you wished for.
If your topic is unique , then it should take even lesser time than I've written above.
Eventually, if you've good and genuine content, you can work with Google and they really help you for certain amount of fee. And believe it or not, you'll see your site first page, first link.

You sould research on search engine optimization n yes it does takes time. If will start appearing once you have enough visitors or unique name or pay some fees..

Well, there is no trick that you could use to get your page in the first hit;. It's series of steps. since your area of domain is limited with less organization with the same goal, you could do couple of things that will land your website in the first page. Since there is less competition you could purchase certain key words from Google and the chances are your page will show in the first search result.
