mountain view, california ??
I frequent the city and so far I don't remember about  feasible public transportation option available as that I saw in New York. Though they do have some bus services which come and go in certain interval.
I would recommend you to have your own car later on even if you move here.

you can't go outskirt with that route.
Just have in mind, eventually you need a car and you must own a car to feel bay area.
If you live nearby that route and treat yourself like a robot, no words but if you are type of adventurous ones, you need a car to roam around. It's a big place boy, you need a car.

On topic, the entire Bay Area has an amazing public transportation system.

I just moved out of bay area and as riddle mentioned the bay area is facilitated with a well organized public transportation-some roads een run 24/7 like the El Camino. Ofcourse its always more convenient to have your own ride but that will come at a bigger cost.If you are in a budget-you will be just fine. Eventually you can head for a BMW which is the predominant vehicle around bay area particulary in Mountain View.

Boss.. There is everything u need except Nepali gals.. There are either mexican or Indians..rent is very expensive.. If you do not make 100+ salary don't expect that you will have your own single bedroom apartment.. Rest is superb

FYI, In bay-area:
  • Living cost is high. (one bed-room apt will cost you around 1000 min. That's the lower end with minimm 3-6 months of lease/contract).
  • Car maintenance cost is high ( if you plan to have an old car and in worst case scenario it breaks down/gives regular problem)
  • Other means of transportation: VTA . Currently, there are following services.
bullet
Light Rail Service
bullet
Community Bus Service
bullet
Regular Bus Service
bullet
Express Bus Service
bullet
Limited Stop Bus Service
bullet
Light Rail Shuttle
bullet
Altamont Commuter Express (ACE) Shuttles
bullet
