sathi haru,

I found that we can apply  OPT up to  60 days after graduation. tara risk huncha aare ho. Do you guys have any suggestions.
I'm graduating in spring 2012, but i have not applied OPT yet.

So, i'm thinking either to apply OPT right now or register some class for summer and graduate in summer and apply for OPT.
your suggestion is higly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

It's true that you can apply for OPT up to 60 days after graduation but it'ss peak season right now and it'll probably take 3-4 months for you to receive your EAD card. I'd suggest you to take some classes during summer, apply for OPT ASAP, and start looking for jobs. You are not allowed to work (unless you find a cash job) during the break between your graduation and your OPT start date. So, instead of graduating in spring and wasting time waiting for your card to arrive, i think it's better to stay in school until summer. Also, you need to start working within 3 months of your OPT start date (or graduation date?) (my school told me that I need to start working within 3 months of my OPT start date and not my graduation date, but they weren't so sure).
Considering everything, its safer for you to graduate in summer.

Its been a while when i did my OPT. But i think you are thinking other way around. You have to apply OPT on time, but on the OPT form or the I-20( i am not sure, check with your Intl advisor) you have the option to indicate when you can start your opt that is upto 60 something days after your graduation.

That is you dont wait for 60 days after you graduate to apply for OPT, but apply earlier and set the option to start the OPT 60 days after you graduate.

I suggest you to start your OPT application ASAP. I graduated in May 2011 and I appied for my OPT  two months prior to my graduation but I received it only after one month after my graduation. But I guess applying forOPT under 17 months extension scheme is relatively faster because I applied it last month and I already have it in my wallet.
Good luck

may be by now u know that there are two types of OPT: pre-graduation and post-graduation. you need to first find out which one your school implies. if it follows pre-graduation, it means you will have to apply BEFORE your graduation. if it's post, you might have 30-60 days time depending on the school u are enrolled in.
