This is a repost since it is relevant to the present political context in Nepal.

The measure of success or failure is always a function of time. How long do you wait to consider the outcome? 

For a short goal you want to wait for 5 years to see how things will be. After year 1 things are worse off yet you want to complete the 5 year cycle to determine the success. Even after 4 years you wan to wait it out till end of year 5 only to see that it was a total failure.

Do you want to wait 100 years when last 15 years have been utter failure?

When the 15 years started people had hope for a better future. Hope of a better future was pedalled and now 15 years later, you want to pedal them hope that thing *might* be better in 85 years. After 15 years things will probably deteriorate more and you will say in 60 years and it will go on till it's year 100 and you will not be there anymore, but the hope you pedalled will have left a lasting irreversible  negative impact.

You can compare it to cancer patient. There is a medicine to maintain the patient's health to make him survive longest by taking the survival pill. They just don't have the cure pill even after extensive research over the past 2 decades. Let's say you want to experiment with a supposedly 'cure' pill and start giving the cure pill instead of survival pill. After year 1, the patient's health deteriorates but you say it will take time. How long are you going to give hope and wait to see if the pill cures the patient, when it is highly possible that it will end up killing him.

I would rather give him the surival pill so that at least he can lead a longer life.

Yes, 15 years is relatively short period of time when you are comparing it to that timeframe.

Cure pills may seem dangerous, that's why they start it with guinea pigs, but when it overcomes all possible damages, it is approved as cure pill. If you ask me, prevention is better than cure. Cure/Survival pills are same. When some disease strike, and no cure pills work, survival pills are prescribed. How about prevention pill? Have you heard of Truvada? It completely decreases the chances of getting any healthy person HIV by 44%. That doesn't mean you can now freely go and sex at your will with random partners. Btw, medical science has now rendered HIV as non-lifethreatening disease as lifetime pills can substantially extend a sufferers' lifetime to their normal mortality period. In a sense, it's just like disease you live up with till your lifetime, like diabetes. It's still little expensive but days are not far when science will significantly extend humans life. Major breakthrough is about to be announced,  may be in 40-50 years they might be able to produce the enzyme that lengthens the Telomeres.

Lemme tell you something about Telomeres, inside the center or nucleus of a cell, our genes are located on twisted, double-stranded molecules of DNA called chromosomes. At the ends of the chromosomes are stretches of DNA called telomeres, which protect our genetic data, make it possible for cells to divide, and hold some secrets to how we age and get cancer. Recently, they found out that the length of telomeres shortens as we age. Now, Imagine if they find a way to keep the length of the Telomeres at exact same shape and length with the help of some man-made enzymes for long long time, welcome to the human era where they live 600-900 years. :D The entire philosophy of life will change by then.

In the beginning of the 18th century, what was the average life span??? 47 years old. And just alone in this century after world war, average life span for human was 60 years. That happened after they made antibiotic. If you ask now, it's now at 75 years average lifespan more human. As compare to older generation, now more and more people are living more than 100 years. It's not a fluke, it's real deal and science is playing major role in making that stuff happening.

And, if you are putting these scientific context to compare our nation's political condition, we don't need a cure, we need a complete cut out, there are massive cancer tumors and they're our leaders. I don't know who is gonna do that, india , china or US?

Bittertruth, replace HIV by cancer in my post. I mean to compare it with something whose cure has not been found.
