Hello Iphone geeks of sajha.
I bought a used iphone3. Before buying it, I tried my at&t sim in it and it was working. After I took it to home, I connected to my computer to charge and itunes said that the firmware is old and needs update. I updated the IOS (but I didnot pay attention to which IOS it updated). After update, the phone restarted and stuck in activation. Now I cannot activate it through wireless (it says the activation server is busy and try again, but I don't think this is due to traffic at activation server). When trying to activate through itune it says the phone does not have sim card although it has simcard in it.
Could somebody tell me how do I activate the phone now? The worst part is, I dont know which carrier it is locked to and which IOS version it has.
Thanks in advance for your help.

alece, thank you very much for fast reply.
It is 3g. I was thinking of jailbreaking it but there are so much information in google that I couldnot figure out what to do.
Before jailbreaking it, I just have a basic questions
Do I need to know which IOS my phone has?
Do I need to know the baseband version?
If yes, how can I find out these information? (because I cannot enter to the phone and itunes doesn't give any information)
Thanks again for the information.

3g!! damn!!!been long time lol!!
i think if you want to know the baseband and other stuffs you can download "tinyumbrella" and it will show the info u need
i dont really think u need to know the baseband..
put ur iphone in DFU mode!!
and download blackra1n or greenpoison or absinthe..
they dont require you to select the ipsw..
its just plug in ur iphone ...put ur phone in dfu mode and then click jailbreak
i would just go and try and see what happens !!
good luck

If you have att sim and you have that phone number on your name then just go to any att store and they will surely help you activate the phone. No need to download and do all those jailbreaking!!

alece, "tinyumbrella" was really helpful. I found out that this phone is actually 3gs and updated to 5.1.1. with baseband 06.15.00
I jailbreaked and unlocked it. Now it is working. Thanks for all the information.
pirka, thanks for the suggestion. I bought it from other person and did not know whether it was jailbreaked or unlocked in the first place. That was the reason I was reluctant to go to at&t store to activate it.
