Nepal: Terrified President denies Coup plot

Telegraph Nepal

Nepal’s beleaguered President Ram Baran Yadav who is alleged of trying to stage a coup d’état with the support of Nepal Army has made it clear that he will not take any steps without holding proper consultations with the political parties.

Perhaps trembling.

Dr. Ram Baran clarified this upon meeting Chairman Puspa Kamal dahal of Unified Maoists, November 4, 2012.

“Do not take the rumors seriously. I will not take any steps without holding proper consultations with the political parties,” said the almost terrified President.

Talking to the media after meeting the President, Pushpa Kamal said, “We held talks in a free and frank manner. He (President) said that rumors that he is plotting a coup are not true.”

President tamed by the Maoists.

Ram Baran and Pushpa Kamal held talks at the Presidential secretariat for over an hour.

President’s press advisor Rajendra Dahal told the media that the President instead urged Chairman Pushpa Kamal as the leader of the ruling party to put extra efforts to resolve disputes between the political parties.

Easier said than done.

To recall, the Unified Maoists party leaders had been claiming that President Ram Baran was plotting a coup with the support of the Nepal Army.

In his exclusive interview with the Kantipur National Daily, November 4, 2012, Finance Minister Barsaman Pun aka Ananta had claimed that his party had the authentic information that President was plotting a coup with the support of the international community and the security agencies.

“We have the information that recently the President has come in touch with the international community. He has also made some efforts to move the security agencies. He also made some efforts to grab power by overthrowing the elected government”, Ananta said.

Nevertheless, unconfirmed reports have it that Nepal Army had summarily rejected the President’s request to stage a coup.

With Nepal Army ignoring the President’s request, Nepal’s southern neighbor India too had made it clear that it was also not interested in getting involved in Nepal’s dirty politics, claim informed analysts.

But who made the politics dirty?
