Dec. 14, 2012

INDIO--A Northern California man convicted of murder and conspiracy learned his fate Friday for the 2008 killing of a Palm Springs retiree. Kaushal Niroula is the fifth man to be sentenced in connection with the case.

It's life in prison without the possibility of parole for convicted killer Kaushal Niroula. Niroula was found guilty of first degree murder back in September for the financially motivated killing of Clifford Lambert. Lambert was attacked in the kitchen of his home and buried in the desert. His body has never been found.

"This time he lost. This time he was sentenced as appropriate. Justice was served," said Deputy District Attorney Lisa DiMaria.

Deputy District Attorney Lisa DiMaria says Niroula is part of a criminal enterprise motivated by greed. His final victim, Clifford Lambert was stabbed to death in his kitchen and buried in the desert.

"This was Tragic but justice was served and it was served among someone who is a manipulative con artist," DiMaria said.

A manipulative con artist who targeted several other people including Tyson Wrensch. Wrensch says he was out of the country when Niroula stole his identity, moved into his house and drained his bank accounts  Now he's thankful Niroula is locked up indefinitely.

"It's a relief that these vultures are gone," said victim Tyson Wrensch.

The final defendant to be sentenced in the Clifford Lambert murder case, Craig McCarthy, pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter back in August of 2010. He's scheduled to be sentenced on January 25th.

We will continue to follow the Lambert murder trial and bring you the very latest.

Thumbprint Brings Final Murder Suspects To Justice

The final two co-conspirators in a 2008 murder and fraud scheme have been brought to justice, thanks in part to thumbprint evidence left in the journal of a diligent Notary. The ongoing case has provided a lesson to Notaries nationwide on the value of recording all signers’ thumbprints — and it’s a lesson convicted criminal Kaushal Niroula will have plenty of time to ponder while serving his life sentence.

The high-profile criminal case had all the makings of a Hollywood “who-done-it”—fraud, forgery, deception, and the murder of Palm Springs resident Cliff Lambert in a plot by several conspirators to rob the wealthy man of his home, his possessions, and even his dog. Prominent San Francisco attorney David Replogle and co-conspirator Miguel Bustamante were sentenced last May for the 2008 crime. Niroula and co-defendant Daniel Carlos Garcia, sentenced in December, were the last of six conspirators to be brought to justice in this case.

“The most important material piece of evidence linking [the suspect] to the murder was the thumbprint in the Notary journal,” John Hall of the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office told the NNA in a recent interview.

California and Illinois are the only two states currently requiring Notaries to record thumbprints for real-estate transactions, but Notaries nationwide are choosing to require prints for all transactions, as a recommended practice to protect themselves and the public against fraud or forgery.

To read more on this particular case, and to find out how several real-life Notaries used recorded thumbprints to protect themselves from liability and lawsuits, check out our feature in the November issue of the National Notary Magazine.

Very sad. He seemed to a bright student while at St Xaviers and teachers favorite.

If you mean "smart" by Nepali standard --He was able to cheat and trick everyone all the time, then indeed, he was very smart in School.

Other than that, he had a poor academic record. He was the only student in his batch to fail in SLC. I guess despite numerous red flags, the school didn't take any action owing to his superior oratory skills that he showcased in numerous elocution contests. But then, like many students, the school probably thought he'd snap out of it after his teenage years.

He sure is one for the ages!
