Believe it of not, despite its modern intricacy, the idea of a continuously variable transmission has been around for almost 500 years, being first conceptualized by Leonardo Da Vinci in 1490 and officially patented in 1886 by Benz and Daimler in Europe and filed another one in 1935 in the U.S
In 1911, Milt Reeves launched his most memorable product, the Reeves Octoauto. Based on an Overland 40-hp touring car, the eight-wheeler's sole motivation was the horrrible roads of the day like Nissan.
The first mass-production car to use a CVT was the 1958 DAF 600 from the Netherlands. Its Variomatic transmission was used in several vehicles built by DAF and Volvo until the 1980s.

Around the 1980s, CVTs became much more mainstream and most manufacturers have at least one model with a CVT in their lineup. Subaru launched its first CVT car name JUSTY in 1987.

Nissan adopted CVT in 2000 and by now most of it's production line has CVT and worst one. If you do not want to dent your wallet for 4-5K in replacing CVT transmission withing 9-7 years down the road do not buy Nissan.
Because of expensive repair cost some people are started using Manual Transmission car, the worst thing happens to manual car is replacing the clutch with may cost 500 and up depending where you bring it to fix it. Data shows the sales in US increased from 1.2 % to 1.7%.

If your car has CVT change CVT fluid within 60-70K and be gentle in the very beginning of start, it means do not try to be 60 MPh in 7 second.
