I have a question for everybody?

This is something like a survey i am trying to do

What language do you think in or what language do u use to talk to urself i mean in mind?

I am asking this coz i think in english. You must think its crazy buts thats true. I landed in a university where there was no nepalese, and my best pal is a cool guy from cali, so one year without nepali and now even there are nepalese in the campus and i talk to them in nepali i still have not switched back to nepali.

Just trying to know if my brain has a malfunction or an english overload

i think (i might have heard this somewhere) ppl think using symbols rather than words from a specific language. so there are mental images or symbols that we manipulate in our minds during the thinking process. the linguistic part of the brain then converts them into the corresponding word whenever we need to communicate our thoughts.
why do you think you think in english? maybe you feel that way because the "translation" part of your brain has become more accustomed to translating the symbols into english. in other words, you need to communicate more in nepali in order to reach your previous comfort level. Think about it - if your brain had to be rewired to think in a completely new language everytime, wouldn' t that be a lot of work? surely evolution would have made you extinct by now. btw, you can always call home if you have no-one to speak to in nepali. and just from what you have said, you're probably just feeling overwhelmed adjusting to a new place. no big deal....it will pass...

Just wondering;

What kind of symbol would come to your mind if you see a hot looking girl?

I just found it funny, thats all. No offense....

first of all, i can't see the symbol since our eyes are pointing outwards. secondly, there are varying degrees of "hotness." if there was just one symbol for all hot girls, the we would not be able to distinguish between aishwary rai and nicole kidman, for instance. they would all be the same to you.

i landed in an university with kuires too, and lived liked a cast away for almost like 2 years ! i think in nepali as well as in english...........

how much u try dude u will think something in nepali ..........

cummon man ur brain is stiched with nepali words u can't hide from it......

as far as the whole concet in a monologue in mind is seen. its kinda weird that u feel comfortable in english than in nepali but i mean its just an interpretation of u'r lthoughts from nepalese than english

what i'm saying is u'r thoughts and a kuires thoughts in the same matter is different, we are highly nepalese influenced.......

but i admit too i have a hard time reading nepali .......i hate when that happens......

well that's about it

peace

Hello guy!
This is a psychological question, I guess. Once you have started using a language from day to day, you start thinking in that language very often, without having to translate your thoughts into that lanugage. One way to reckon that you think in a language is to see a dream where you are fluently speaking in that language while talking.

I was in India, I was fluent in Hindi, was in Russia so was I fluent in Russian, and am in Amerika and fluent in English. I used to speak French when I lived at Pashupati in Nepal, but now I can comprehend it (Pous Je?) and speak it but am sure French will not be able to make it out. I need to a long vacation in Paris and some interaction with a slim parisienne for a while before I speak it to their liking!

The result is I've an accent in all languages, including my mother tongues (according to my wife)...

Ho tyahi ho...

But in the dream the language is occassional. If you are comminicating with Nepali friends in Dream it's in Nepali. If with Japoanese friends, it's in Japanese.

The conclusion is It depends on the topic and circumstances what you are thinking.
