I read in a post that the King (Royal Family?) gets Rs. 67 crore a year. Is this correct? Who all does this cover?

arka ko paisa ko lov nagaru.
teyo khetan, golcha, dugar etc haru nepal aauda lota matrai bokeyra aayako theya, aailey teai mancha haru kati dhani chan. i suppose royal family bhanda dhani chan.

kethan, golcha , dugar, etc haru ko kati nai pusta bhayo hola ra nepal ma?

not more then 3 or 4. timi hami haru ko pusta ko ta hisab nai chaina. hamro purkha haru pani ta teai desh ma theya nee, tyo mancha haru india bata lota matrai bokey ra aauda.
herda herdai tini haru kaha pugya, hami jaha ko teai.

teai bhaya ra aaaru ko paisa ma aakah na lagau ho sathi ho.

you know one interesting thing, i guess it was few years back when a sansad from my hometown used to wear slippers , used to live in a rundown house, used to play caramboard on the streets. now he has a building with most modern facility in kathmandu. never drinks local rakshi, only scotch. never walks, rides the most latest cars in nepal. its just been few years and he can earn that much.
royals they have been in nepal for centuries so dont you think its possible for them to have that much?

IF THERE ARE STILL SOME PEOPLE WHO THINK DIPENDRA KILLED THE ROYAL FAMILY MEMBERS(and shot himself later), I CAN'T HELP MYSELF BUT LAUGH(pet michi michi).

JHYAPP BHAERA, COCAINE GARERA, 10 KILO KO AUTOMATIC WEAPON LE BHATTTATTTA....LMAO.

common guys grow up....for those who still support Gyanendra.

And also, I don't beleive that he (Dipendra) was struggling for his life for two days. I think he was dead on the same day King Birendra died. KG just took two days to control over. Hope Upendra Devkota will tell truth to the public someday.

Prithivinarayan Shah had also killed several people. He had cut the noses of Newars from Kirtipur.I guess, who can kill more gets more respect and power in politics.

Tsk Tsk Deep Blue, they didn't have the International War Crimes Tribunal then. In this day and age, if King Gyanendra chops off the ears and noses of the Congress, UML or Maoists cadres, he may find himself in the Hague :)

TO Nepali ho ma,
gyanendra's accounted wealth alone is more then the top ten businessmen of Nepal icluding Khetan, Golchha, chadhary and others combined. Read Nepal pakshik shrawan 2059.

I do not support to the leaders who wore slippers before 2046 and bulid big apartments in Katmandu therafter.
But Palace is a diff. story. The peons and pales of the palace have bigger houses then the slipper wearing MP you have mentioned. The King gives millions of rs. from our treasury as dachhina to his bada guruju, guruju and Indian pujaris every year. So no comparision to his chamatkar with Netako bhrastachar.
Anyway, a mind covered with false belief is difficult to uncover. Your statement is ridiculous.

hey newuser zee,
seems like an elite around all these fools hovering around this site.
well i do love democracy and i do want my rights back too.
but you know a thing man, i wouldnt have asked a single question to our X- leaders even if they have had amassed billions of dollars but atleast left behind a good example.
Atleast one thing to be proud of.

Well in case of gynandra and his wealth, he did inherit from his forefathers great Prithivi Narayan Shah (whos revered for one good cause), Tribhuvan (did a lot during Rana Regime).
I dont mean his earnings are all crystal clear.
but i dont think i will mind, him amassing wealth, if he paves a bright future for a simple voter like me in Nepal.
but i do if he just keeps on sucking the general nepali people. Dont get agitated by my words, you just cant jump into conclusion now, let him have his time for a while.
Then you can jump into conclusion.
But i guess you can jump into conclusion about our X-leaders, cause they bought a lot of precious Nepali time for cheap from us.

You need a good example? I think I have got many.

First, the scale of consciousness that developed in people. People are no longer sheeps and goats these days. Otherwise they would line up in thousands and chant- Hamro Raja Hamro Desh Pran Bhanda Pyaro chha. As they did in the repressive Panchayat period.

Developement of media. You have choice what to read and what to listen from politics to music. No longer you need to watch or read or listen to Radio Nepal and Nepal Televison and Gorkhapatra only. YOu have choices, freedom(though Gyanendra has shamefully barred this choices now). With media the knowledge of the outer world entered inside Nepal, you must agree. Secrecy and darkness within the government or public sector has been unfolded by the media.

Development of private sector educaton. I know people from extreme poverty culd not benefit from this but a big chunk of the middle class and lower middle class have benfitted from this which previosuly was only available to upper class people.

The easy issuing of Passports. In Panchayat, you could only be issued a passport from the foreign ministry. General people could not go abroad for emplyment or education.
With the simplification of the precedure, now tens of thousands of people are earninng foreign currency for the country from abroad. Our country today is running with the remmitence send home by Nepalese working abroad.

secularism, economic liberalisation, modernisation, of the society. Prajatantra ko bich ma neta ka ghar matra haina sathi lakhau janata ka ghar pani khar bata brick ra cement ka gharma change bhako chhan. Brick and cement houses were the property of thulabada in that era but not now.

12 barsha ma janata le thulo fadko marekachhan. Neta matra gatila bhaideko bhaye, we have moved a lot forward.

Blockade of information and communication will hide many things. So you do not know what has happened in these 4 days. But apart from politician's reckless misuse of government resources, Nepalese people have taken a giant leap. We are used to with democracy. First we will wait few weeks till King Gyanedra gives our telephone lines back, otherwise we will storm into Narayanhiti. beware!

yes the royal palace gets 67 crore per year from the government. and that 67 crore does not include his incomes from his private business. 67 crore is the sum we nepalese give him every year.

newuserr,
i would like to correct you about the statement about passport.
PASSPORT was issued only by foreign ministry for valid resons. yes it was not like a cheap copy like it is now. you know why ?? because not many people were going abroad for labor or education. reason [ education was better in nepal. and you had jobs in the country] remember US$1 = NRs 25 only. so do believe that one way or the other we were in a better shape.

now half the younger generation in abroad why?? school in our country is closed HALF THE TIME. no decent education... no jobs...in the country ,.... and one way or the other people have more money.. i do not know how but thats the story.

my lunch money used to be Nrs5 in 1990. and my parents cannot afford more than that to their grandchildren. [we were rich then .. not now....people just have fared better] i am happy for all the new and wealthy nepalese.

btw correction is ... general people used to have access to passport. my brother went to uk in 1984 for his higher studies... my dad is a commoner so no connection to high class. he was no high class ... he got his passport easily. i got mine in 1989 and it was no problem either.... one thing is for sure for genuine people they was no scrutiny... and no hassale like now... i got my passport in 1989 in 3 days... it took me 5 days to renew it from Lalitpur district administration this time in 2003

I do not necessarily agree to any comments of yours Mr. Thapap because I have firm belief in democracy and flat rejection of autocracy.
1. Authorising local bodies to facilitate passports to the public has only provided the laymen like us to create chance of overseas study and employment on our own. Before, it was only high ranking panchas to enjoy this oppurtunity.
2.Students are seeking education abroad not because the quality has deteriorated from what it was in the panchayat era but because democracy has opened horizons to practically vibrant western education.
3.US $1=NRs 20 only. Foreign exchange rates are based on certain economic indices which you appear to not understanding at all. Mind you, our rate depends much largely to the Indian rate and this is stale . Nepali rupiya 160= Bharu 100. Before it was 165 I suppose. 1 US dollar is equivalent to more then hundred chinese yuan(but not sure hai)
4. Lunch box Rs. 5. now 50, not a big rise in terms of the global growth of commodity value. Just to let you know that weeks before, the kerosene oil was increased from 28/litre to 36/litre. Has any government except the government under Gyanendra increased the price of fuel this highly in Nepal's history? Deuba sarkar pani rajaikai sarkar ho sathi, chokhina nakhoja.
5. I am not rich. Not at all. And don't be fooled by Gyanendra's mitha kura. He is dangerous. Change your mind and protest against autocracy.

in another post you proudly announce that you are respected figure in big company in west but it is so sad that you do not understant the economy....

you say this government increased price high..... but before that allegation try to find out why?

it is because the leaders always try to keep it low to increase popularity in election they brought NOC to unfavourable competition...

it is so bad now that if government had not increase the price NOC would have been closed and a indian oil corporation would have taken a marwari in hand and started selling it more expensive....

just go out compare the price of fuel in other country and in nepal.. just compare with india you will find nepal is sellin for cheap...

newuserr...

okey u cannot agree in terms.... that's your choice and my own...

staying abroad nepal and comparing "gold with sand" is a little bit tough ain't it??
you know who pegged NRS 160=IC 100 it was this democratic governments... pls. pls.. do not talk about the currency pegging and the float currency.

one fundamental argument you missed is
"PEOPLE HAD CHOICE OF GOING ABROAD FOR EDUCATION" before 1990 and they had done that ... easily then and now. "ITS NOT THE BROADNING OF HORIZONS ITS THE AFFORDABILITY AND THE HIGHER SPENDING POWER OF HIGHER NUMBER OF PEOPLE"

I cannot argue anymore with the custodians of tyranny. You do not have the mental strength to understand what I say ( to Merinepal so n so and thapap).
