Academic certificates of 8,000 TU officials under scanner

The Fake Certificates Probe Committee has scrutinised altogether 8,024 academic certificates of jobholders at the Tribhuvan University.

After the screening of the certificates, the committee headed by Prof Hari Bahadur Karki had forwarded 935 suspicious certificates to the Commission for Investigation of the Abuse of Authority (CIAA) for an investigation. Of the suspicious certificates, officials said, the CIAA had found only 175 certificates to be genuine.

Most of the fake certificates belong to junior-level employees. Owing to complaints against the recruitment of fake certificate holders, the TU has now started screening the certificates prior to the appointments, officials said. Academic certificates of over 100 newly appointed employees were screened before their appointment recently.

According to sources at the committee, decision on the action against the fake certificate holders is yet to be taken as the committee is trying to verify whether the institutions that issued the certificates really existed. nepalnews.com mbk Feb 09 05
