As far as I know, US or any state in the US does not have an official language. Some lawmakers tried to pass English as the official language of the US in the senate, but the then President Clinton said he would veto the bill, so the house lost interest. The language used in the govt. documents is English but the beauty of the US is that it has no official language. I hope it stays that way!

What I know through US Census is that 67 languages are spoken in West Virginia, including 27 in the Charleston Metropolitan Area. More than 13,000 West Virginians struggle with English, and 2,300 West Virginia households have no resident over the age of 14 who can speak English proficiently. Just recently(around 2 weeks ago) W. Va. passed this legislature to declare english as an official language which makes the total number of states in US equal to 28 where english is an official language. I guess this is a sensible state towards making a common communication platform for all which of course is important for the country's progress.

Well, what do you expect in West Virginia. One of the most backward states, in line with Alabama, Mississippi, and those other redneck states. Hey, do you guys know what a West Virginian with couple of pigs under his arms called? Pimp!!
