Well, it doesnt need to be an expensive SLR to ceate great pics and even the most expensive doesnt gurantee great pics because for a very simple fundamental reason being that the user is one to control what shots to take, when to take them and in what way to take them and SLRs or DSLRs(digital SLR) are simply tools to help you take those shots.

The difference between simple inexpensive SLR and high end high priced SLR and DSLR is that the expensive SLRs or DSLRs offer more freatures for ease of use, automation and greater manupulation than those offered by less expensive SLRs but still the user is incharge of the camera so no matter if it is an low priced SLR or high end high priced SLR and DSLR the user makes the enormous difference.

Various SLR and DSLR models of various price range are available from various manufacturers like Canon, Nikon, Pentax, Minolta, Olympus and so forth. You might wanna check out at "Henrys" camera superstore located at 119 Church St. just few blocks east of Younge St on Queen st.

The entry level SLR are available from 280$ (body only) and up while mid-priced SLRs generally start at 500$(body only) and up. Pro models will cost you at least a 1100$(body only) and up. For me Nikon N/F-65 is fairly good entry level SLR for that price.

Lens are available anywhere from 170$ and up to 5000$ depending upon the type of lens you choose.

If you like to go digital, fortunately the price of digital SLR has come down by and the least expensive digital SLR is available from Canon (Canon Digital Rebel) at 800$(body only) which has 6.3 Mega Pixal image sensor and it is fairly good DSLR for that price. The rest of the DSLR gang from all available manfacturers have stayed(at least for now) over 1200$ mark.

The lens for DSLR are interchangeable with film SLR but the "Focal Length Multiplier" effect comes into play so for example the same 300mm lens for film SLR becomes 480mm lens when used on DSLR. Few DSLRs have solved this problem by now.

Drama in the sky and on the lake:

Lake Ontario in this pic is made to appear more like a large flowing river than a lake by using slow sutter speed and a camera positioned at a very low angle to the horizon(no more than just two feet above the water surface) which gives a feeling as if this shot was taken by placing myself in a boat on water(in reality it is not).

Shot captured just after sunset gives a dramatic feel of movement and range of colors in the sky as well as on the suface of lake Ontario.

BW image looks great when it comes to photograping close up shot of texture of bark of trees. In BW image the texture of the bark of trees appears more pronounced.

This shot was taken from a distance of about one and half feet to the surface of the bark of the tree. The background was blurred altogether using combination of large aperture (F 3.3) and long focal length (80MM).

In fact the tree was standing right next to a very busy Gardener Expressway filled with saturday commuters south of Queensway and King.

Man in the shadow: The same unsettling Lake Ontario appears so calm and serene here as these two men stroll by the lake. This image was cropped 2/3 of its initial area.

The color image of Lake Ontario up in the list was taken just less than 15 after I took this shot however there is sea difference in feel of the color image of Lake Ontario up in the list and the B/W image of Lake Ontario the distance of the location where these shots(one above in the list and this one) is no more than 20 metres apart.
