i've been reading the chats on this site as well as other blog and opinion sites on nepal, and i wanted to suggest that maybe some clear norms are established about how to speak democratically.

please forgive me if there are already rules at sajha.com about how people should communicate with each other. but what i have observed is that people are quite happy to throw foul language around in order to shut each other up. or to accuse each other of all kinds of things.

let us agree that as nepalis we can have differing points of view. we can be monarchists, we can be republicans, we can be everything in between. but why the need to insult each other? why the need to insult each other? call each other names?

can we not just agree to disagree, and engage in a "constructive" dialogue on each other's views?

the way to do this is to take the "thoughts" of someone who has written or said anything in public and to offer your own "thoughts' back--agreeing or disagreeing. there is no need to attack the person personally. and there is no need at all for swearing and using foul language to discourage different opinions.

sometimes i despair that we nepalis will never learn to speak democratically.

good point. we all wish the best for nepal. we all would like to see a prosperous nepal where everyone can live in peace and harmony. people may disagree on how we can get there, but the end goal is the same. and a point of view is simply a function of someone's intellectual/social conditioning and reasoning/emotional ability. time will tell......
