KATHMANDU, Aug 5 - Around 200 Nepalese residing near the Nepal-India border in Navalparasi district arrived at the district headquarters Thursday evening seeking security, because they were being harassed by the Indian border security forces, reports say.
The people from Triveni Susta VDC-4 who fled their villages said that Shasastra Suraksha Bal, the SSB, of India destroyed their crops and arbitrarily arrested some of the villagers this week, intruding into Nepali territory.
?Today, the SSB soldiers came to Susta Thadi, five kilometers into Nepal from the border,? said Mangale Tamang, one of the villagers who arrived at the district headquarters.
The SSB even arrested Sub-inspector Jung Bahadur Singh, deputed at police post in Marga Susta recently, and released him some time later, reports say.
Chief District Officer Niranjan Baral said authorities are investigating the incident.
The villagers, half of whom are women and children, are without food or shelter at the headquartes. (hb)
