Was going thru' sajha archive and found this thread of 2003 where a few of us were engaged in solving puzzles and introducing new ones. Sadly, the very last puzzle that i posted hasn't been answered yet ( It is, in fact, one of the classic logic puzzles created by Raymond Smullyan). Sajha has changed a lot since then with a lot of new members added to it . I thought if anybody with strong passion for logic and/or puzzles wanna give it a try. So here it is once again:
(A puzzle! --- revisited )

Keep rolling...

हेर्नुस् श्री ५, ३ जोडी भनुम् न च्याँके/लिखे(A+a), गोबिन्दे/उजेली(B+b), ठगे/फुलमाया(C+c)

1. A+a cross the river.
2. ??
3. ??
4. ??
???

Too quick to come to a conclusion.

If you don't like solving puzzles, it's fine. I like it and that's why I do it. Neither do I get a penny for solving these puzzles nor does it bring peace to our country. So, to answer your first and third question, I do it just to keep my mind busy ( I cud have talked about politics, blah blahed about maobadis and shit but then I find it fun to play with puzzles and I do it. ) Any questions ?

Thanks for your second question. Although it seems more to me like a riddle than a puzzle, I will try to think about it in my leisure. Now, I am not God to be able to solve a riddle right off.

And by the way, why is it only for me ? You wanna prove something to me ? Is there a secret knowledge you have gained and you wanna teach it to me in front of everybody in Sajha ? You wanna act smart ? Ok ,you are smart. Now f**k off.

Sign convention: माथी हुनी खाले (uppercase or capital letters) जति केटा, तल हुनी खाले (lowercase or small letters) जति केटी मुन्छे, भागेर लाहुर, बम्मै जान लाऽका।
1. A + a go to Waling-ward
2. A comes back to Pipaltari shore
3. B+b go to Waling-ward
4. a comes back to Pipaltari shore while B+b remain in the Waling-shore.

Repeat for C,c; {C,c} as in {A,a} or as in {B,b}

> So I learnt you also know the four-letter word,
Who am I ? A kindergarten kid, not to know the f-word ? I not only know it but use it quite often to express my various emotions ( because of the lack of vocabulary ). Here are some contexts where I use it:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/F**k#Linguistics
(substitute "**" by "uc")

>and "I never claimed you are not smart".
Neither am I smart nor did I ever claim that I am nor will I ever have any objection even if you claimed that I am not.

''Reynolds thought about this and finally told Craig whether or not he knew whether he could have decided had the other one answered the second question instead. ''

Arch Sir, I think the above sentence concludes that one amongst A and B is a kinght and the other is knave. So there is no possibility of them being knight, knight or knave, knave as you suggest. For the rest, Nirman has already solved the puzzle. if you think you have a different reasoning, lets see it. Jabarjasti garera hunna yar, the best way to shut others mouth is to come up with a logical reasoning.

If you think his answer is correct, then why do u ask me for the correct one ?
I am just a poor student (no need to call me a 'Sir') and my rejecting or accepting any answer doesn't make it right or wrong. You should have the ability to judge the validity of a proof yourself.
I gave my opinion. If you don't like it curse me or something.

As for Nirman's proof, I gave a reason why it is wrong. If he comes up with the right one , I don't have any personal reasons to say that he is wrong. He is a decent Sajha basi and I am a huge fan of his literary works as well.

>'Reynolds thought about this and finally told Craig whether or not he knew whether he could have decided had the other one answered the second question instead. '
> Arch Sir, I think the above sentence concludes that one amongst A and B is a kinght and the other is knave. So there is no possibility of them being knight, knight or knave, knave as you suggest.

No , it doesn't. To tell u the truth, Reynold can deduce that A is a Knight but he doesn't have enough information to find whether B is a Knight or a Knave and hence the answer he gave to Craig. Not because one was knight and the other was knave, as you said but because he knew the identity of one and not of the others.

Ok guys. I went thru' what I wrote all day today and I sound like an arrogant know-it-all, don't I ? :-)
I didn't write anything incorrect but the way I did was surely wrong. Shit happens in life and it was just one of those days when u feel like shouting at everybody.

I will post the answer in a few days [ I have it right here . The problem is that the answer is too long to type and my digicam is out of order ].

My sincere apologies to Nirman, Dada, shree5, PRESIDINGEARTHLY, newuser. Have fun and I will try to fix up things in my life.

arch119, shree,
Ok thinking for the best conclusions to your questions.
***
Shree,
1. A + a go to Waling-ward
2. A comes back to Pipaltari shore
3. B+b go to Waling-ward

Okay, Now B+b+a are in the Waling-Ward.

दुबै जना अन्धा मान्छे छुट्टिने बेलामा आफू संग भएका 6 pairs मोजा (जसमा 2 pairs each of red, white and blue) खुरु खुरु च्यात्छन किनभने मोजा त सबै pair मा आउँछ । 2 pieces each of red, white and blue socks 1 pair each of red, white and blue socks

Wish ya all the best

Keep rolling...

Solution to my problem.

1. A & a crosss the river.
->A,a are on the other side and boat is there.
2. A returns
->A, Bb Cc are on this side and boat is here.
3. b & c crosses river
->Now a,b&c are on the other side and boat is there.
4. a returns with the boat and goes to his bf's place.
->Now A+a, B, C are on this side and boat is here.
5. B & C cross the river.
->Now B+b, C+c are on the other side and boat is there.
6. B+b returns.
->Now A+a, B+b are on this side and boat is here.
7. A+B cross the riber.
->Now A,B, C+c are on the other side and boat is there.
8. c returns.
->Now a,b,c are on this side and boat is here.
9. b, c cross the river.
->Now A, B+b, C+c are on the other side and boat is there.
10. c returns
->Now a,c are on this side and boat is here.
11. a,c cross the river.

Here is a puzzle very similar to Arch119's Knight and Knave puzzle. Illustration says all. Guess the question the traveler asked.

(When I was a teacher in Nuwakot a long time ago, a Japanese volunteer teacher (I still remember his name, Kazunori Iwata from Nagasaki ) had brought this puzzle to us. I had managed to solve it !

"You came through the left, the way for the paradise, right?"

A came through the paradise. He doesn't lie. He should reply "Yes".
B came through the Hell. He lies. He should also reply "Yes".

And hence, answer "Yes" from either means the left is the way for paradise & Vice versa.

:)
