Last nite on TV, I saw news of race riots in down under. Huge group of white dudes (like KKK) were drunk & going around bashing Arabs & people who looked Middle Eastern. I was wondering if any Nepali brothers got beat up also.

And just out of curiosity which country do you think is the most racist in your viewpoint & experience? I am only concerned with Racism based on color.
1) USA
2) UK
3) Australia
4) Japan
5) etc etc..

Remember a friend from college who used to say
"if you are white, you're all right. If you're black you're all right. If you're in between, hesus, you're fked up!"

It depends in which part of US you live. There are some liberal states and there are red neck states. However no state is immune from it.

Probably JAPAN. Not that they want to be racist. It is just that the philosophy of multiculturalism in their homeland is still quite alien to them. Just my thought.

I'm doing some research on race & minority issue in US and just wanted to find out what & how people think about these issues.

1) Sometimes do you feel you are treated a little bit different in your workplace due to your color?

2) Do you feel left out on some issues by your white co-workers?

3) Do you think you have a good chance to move up the ladder in the company you work for? Maybe one day make management level decisions?

4) No matter how American you try to act with your co-workers, do you sometimes feel they know you are different and treat you somewhat differently.

5) Do you feel or have you experienced your white co-workers getting promoted faster than you?

Thanks.

1) Sometimes do you feel you are treated a little bit different in your workplace due to your color?

Of course. Doesn't mean that's bad. It's a good thing that they're conscious about me being of a different culture or skin color.

2) Do you feel left out on some issues by your white co-workers?

Yes on culture-specific things... And they feel left out when I and my Indian coworkers talk about holi and dee[pa]wali, too.

3) Do you think you have a good chance to move up the ladder in the company you work for? Maybe one day make management level decisions?

Yes. Not if I continue to hangout here on sajha.com all day tho ;-)

4) No matter how American you try to act with your co-workers, do you sometimes feel they know you are different and treat you somewhat differently.

Yes. And it's not a bad thing. They know that I can't possibly act American (just like they can't possibly act non-American!). You can fool someone for a day or two but you are who you are thereafter.

5) Do you feel or have you experienced your white co-workers getting promoted faster than you?

No. But if it did, it would be only coincidental or because they are better suited for the job. We gotta admit what we lack.

But if you're asking these questions to prove your hypothesis about racial discrimination in workplaces, you may need to come up with a more scientific way. Discrimination now happens in subtle ways and you probably need smarter tools to capture that. People who de facto discriminate are aware of the laws (pretty much your questions) and probably won't do anything that breaks them in obvious ways. For example, even though my answers to your questions suggest that there's no disciminiation going on at my workplace, the fact *may* be that there is. You see, the system has persuaded me to think that there isn't...

Am I making sense?

SMS fuels race riots
---------------------------------------
TEXT messages and emails that fuelled Sydney's race riots have surfaced in three other states, but authorities believe they are hoaxes.

Text messages were used to incite mob violence against people of Middle Eastern appearance at Sydney's Cronulla beach on Sunday in retaliation for an earlier attack on surf lifesavers.

Further text messages and emails have been circulating in Sydney this week, calling for groups to gather at Cronulla and other beaches this weekend.

Queensland police said text messages calling for people to start "cracking skulls" had surfaced on the Gold Coast. Similar messages were reported yesterday in Victoria and Western Australia.

The Queensland Premier, Peter Beattie, said he believed there would not be any support for racial unrest on the Gold Coast.

"As far as I'm concerned, I think you've got a couple of idiots taking advantage of what happened in Sydney to try and create mischief," Mr Beattie said.

Instead of whining about racism in your workplace, do something about it. If you're a retard who can't talk then you deserve what you get.I'm not afraid to scream racism if it happens to me. And I have done it before. I shouted discrimination when they held me for too long in the airport. Works like a charm. They had to bring in PR people to set me straight.
So you snooze you lose.

"Lock up your sons, Sydney's parents told"
Thursday Dec 15 07:00 AEDT
----------------------------------------------------------

Community leaders are calling for a youth curfew in a bid to stop expected racial violence in Sydney this weekend.

Text messages inciting racial hatred and calling people to a pitched battle in the southern beachside suburb of Cronulla are circulating widely.

Meanwhile, an email has called on the "sons of the ANZACs" to march on the south-western Sydney Muslim enclave of Lakemba.
Community leaders have responded by saying Lebanese youths should not venture out after 9pm on Friday and Saturday, and should stay home all Sunday, according to reports.

"Those who violate the curfew will be doing so in defiance of their faith, of the law and their community leaders. We are all united in opposing violence," Lebanese Muslim Association leader Ahmad Kamaledine was quoted as saying in The Australian newspaper.

Anglican archbishop Peter Jensen backed the move and called on parents to exert discipline on their boys and young men.
"It is first of all in the home that we learn to respect and care for others," he said to The Australian.

Other religious and political leaders are calling for unity and calm after a spate of attacks on places of worship linked to days of race-fuelled violence.

Police would pay "special attention" to religious venues as text messages and emails, similar to those which fuelled Sydney's violence, spread to other states, New South Wales Premier Morris Iemma said.

The NSW parliament will convene for an emergency session today to pass tough new police laws allowing authorities to lock down trouble spots, seize cars and close pubs and bottle shops.

More than 450 officers will continue to patrol flashpoint suburbs in the city's south and west following violence sparked by an attack on surf lifesavers and Sunday's subsequent race riot at Cronulla Beach.

The riots were followed by two nights of retaliatory "smash-and-bash" attacks in Maroubra, Cronulla and Brighton-le-Sands.

Senior police also pledged to keep up their presence on Sydney's streets as members of a Muslim youth group and the surf movement held peace talks on the boardwalk at Cronulla.

Meanwhile, a leaked document has indicated police were not equipped to respond to Monday's violence in Cronulla.

The Seven Network said it had obtained a police incident report instructing officers to stay away from one of the trouble spots — believed to be Punchbowl Park in Sydney's west — on Monday night.

The park is believed to have been the meeting place for scores of men who formed a vehicle convoy which drove to Cronulla unimpeded by police.

The report showed those in the crowd were suspected of being Middle Eastern criminals who had been involved in malicious damage and civil disobedience offences throughout the Sutherland Shire.

The report said "a direction was given to police about midnight not to enter the area and antagonise these persons".

Church attacks

In the latest development amid the tensions gripping Sydney, a Uniting Church hall in Auburn was burned to the ground on Tuesday night, while the nearby St Thomas' Anglican Church had a dozen windows smashed about the same time.

It follows vandalism of the St Albans Anglican church at Macquarie Fields on Tuesday morning and an incident on Monday night in which shots were fired outside a Christmas carol service at the Catholic St Joseph the Worker Primary School in Auburn.

Police are treating the blaze as suspicious and Mr Iemma has said "it may be" linked to the racial violence.

Echoes Ji, Nameste..
I was just suprised how you managed to live here and not feel discriminated. I was suprised if we had blonde Nepalis in Nepal. You're one lucky dude. I wish it applied to me too. I am so sick and tired of fighting that i have given up the struggle with the ignorants and started doing meditation to calm myself down.
thanks.. good day Echoes ji

The Aussie whites are dead mad at all sorts of Asian and Arabs and other nationals entering the country and messing up with them. Why wouldnt they ? Their country is being swamped with foreign nationals whose ideas, colutures and ways of life might not have been compatible or in harmony with the ways of life of whites of Aussie land.

These foreigners come to these places like Austrialia. They want comfort and better life but they are dead reluctent to dissolve themselves into the new society.

Wouldnt Nepali guys get mad at Indians when they enter Nepal, live there and try messing around with Nepali ways of life ?

I dont feel "racism" is an accurate word for it because there could be lot of factors behind the rage at non-whites and racism could be playing a part in a very passive fashion as well.
