- http://www.chinapost.com.tw/i_latestdetail.asp?id=36009 U.N. food aid office closed in east Nepal after bombing(updated 11:43 a.m.) 2006/3/3 KATMANDU, Nepal (AP) The United Nations has condemned the bombing of a World Food Program office in eastern Nepal responsible for distributing food aid to thousands of Bhutanese refugees. Two bombs were thrown at the office in Damak, about 500 kilometers (310 miles) southeast of the capital Katmandu on Thursday. No staff members were injured by the blasts, which caused some damage to the building. The office remained closed Friday. "The U.N. strongly condemns the attack which violates international humanitarian law and the U.N. basic operating guidelines," U.N. said in a statement. No one has claimed responsibility for the attack but police blamed Maoist rebels for the attacks, which also targeted two government offices and a government-run bank in Damak. Police official Yuv Narayan Vaidhya said on the telephone that they were searching for the attackers. The rebels have not made any comment, but they have previously pledged not to attack U.N. offices or personnel. The WFP office at Damak has been working to distribute food aid to estimated 105,000 Bhutanese refugees who have been living in U.N.-run camps in eastern Nepal since they were forced to flee Bhutan. Most of the refugees fled Bhutan in the late 1980s, when Bhutan's government _ dominated by the ethnic majority Drukpa group _ accused the minority Lothsampas of being illegal immigrants. Relations between Nepal and Bhutan have been strained by the refugee issue. The two small Himalayan kingdoms have held a series of talks, but there has been no breakthrough.

I donno what this senless violence will lead to. But its about time that all concern folks put pressure on maoists to give up violence. The three morons aka maoists, 7 parties and king should give up thier stuburness and come to negotiation. Peace is what I want so that I can see my future prosper in my hood. Thats what most of the people hope for I guess. peace

UN condemns explosions in Damak WFP office The United Nations (UN) has condemned the explosions carried out by the Maoists in the premises of the World Food Programme (WFP) sub-office in Damak, Jhapa district on Thursday. "The UN strongly condemns such attack which violates international humanitarian law and the basic operating guidelines," a press statement issued by the UN Information Centre, Kathmandu, said. The statement also said that the UN office in Damak will remain closed pending an investigation of the attack. The UN works throughout Nepal to address the needs of the civilian population. In the Damak area, the UN provides protection and assistance consisting of food, shelter, health and other material assistance to over 105,000 Bhutanese refugees in camps in the Jhapa and Morang districts in eastern Nepal through the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugee (UNHCR) and the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP). The Maoists exploded two socket bombs at 11:00 a.m. Thursday in the premises of the WFP sub-office in Damak. The explosion caused minor damages to the building. source: http://www.kantipuronline.com/

my point is this: they (un) are feeding the Lhotshampas for over a decade. the UN (united nuisance) clearly know that India is the culprit that prevents the Lhotsampas access their rights in Bhutan. After seeing all this, the UN has failed to deliver justice to the fellow Bhutanese. Isnt this UNITED NONSENSE?? My expectations from wfp (and un mafia) is this: stop nautanki and DELIVER justice. otherwise leave Beldangi, Jhapa. Hulak bro.

>>the UN has failed to deliver justice to the fellow Bhutanese. No arguments on this issue but why disrupt or stop the service that benefits people? Beats me. The moaists have apologized for their "mistake" in this bombing but does this "apology" mean anything? Probably not. -Shiv

ONCE AGAIN HERE WE GO !! AREN'T THEY SUPPOSED TO BE FIGHTING FOR THE POOR ? BY DESTRYING THE FOOD BANK WHO DO THESE IDIOTS THINK THEY ARE HURTING THE MOST ? THE VERY FUGGIN PEOPLE THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO BE PROTECTING !! THAT JUST SHOWS HOW MUCH THEY DO REALLY CARE ABOUT THE PEOPLE(its all about the fuggin power ain't it ?) I do believe that UN to a certain extent, is a handicapp organization. If you look at Darfur, Rawanda, Sareyevo they did stand on the sidelines and watch the Tamasaaa till the shit hit the Fan.

Ops, did they (Maoists) apologized? Aaaaa, they did. Hehe :) Now they can move on, chest thumping, head held high and their propaganda mouthpieces can again shout on the top of their lungs, "Maoists are for the people, fighting people's war." Oh really? Hah! I wonder when they would apologize again, and perhaps bomb 20 people, apologize again, rape the entire village, apologize again, loot the hungry people, apologize again - mutilate, murder, and commit one after another heinous crimes and . . . GUESS WHAT? Of course, APOLOGIZE AGAIN!!! Everything is fine - they have political cause, they raped, but they apologized - they murdered, but they apologized. Applause! I just hope they stop apologizing and just carry on. But I guess, their well wishers would require something to portray them as victim fighting for other victims. But all I can see is, some pseudo victims, using many real victims, to create more chronic human seas of victims. But all they require is one press release saying, that was a mistake and we apologize, and all is fine and dandy with all the real/ pseudo political, intellectual elites. Great! And therein lays the irony of things. IndisGuise:) P.S:UN is a henpecked organization, and only carries much weight in under privileged countries. But so long as it can be of some help. Ah. . . well!

Read as, "Ops, did they (Maoists) apologize?" Ignore other typos. --- Also, UN, in my humble opinion, should know that our "loving and very concerned neighbor" India are in some ways responsible for that hundreds of thousands of Bhutanese refugees flocking in Nepal. But maybe our loving neighbor is not a push and shoves country anymore. Recently, even the mightiest of the mighty, America, bowed down against its own "never broken" accord of nuclear treaty, branding India as a "unique case." So there! IndisGuise:)

Agree totally on Maoists' issue.... Maoists can shed as much crocodile's tear as they want...bottom line is they want the same piece of pie that Nepali Congress, UML, RPP and others were able to get by making it to the Government...including the KING....Maoist's so called People's War is nothing more than Power's WAR...or WAR for POWER... And, talking about the UN, UN is a handicapped organization ran by 5 or 7 powers of the world...The USA, UK, China, France, Germany and lately, India and Pakistan...Who cares about refugee situation in Nepal...its what India wants, then, its what UN wants too...like it or not.... Call me crazy, but sometimes I wish the British had controlled Nepal for a while (When they were in India)...we might have been a progressive nation had that happened.....
