.
Scorecardfor the nepal-namibia game. and bulletin.
my analysis of nepal's chances:
very poor
what we gotta remember is that namibia dosent need a win in this geme
all they need is a draw to go through
so obviously they are goind to try to bat out as much time as they can on the third morning. which means we will have to get past their score, and then get them out again in order to win
and altho nothing is impossibe, i think we are gradually seeing our chances to participate in the 2006 intercontinental cup start to slip away.
what pisses me off the most is that the intercontinental cup was planned around 'cricket form and ease of travel arrangements'. if we look at the 7 teams (other than nepal/namibia) already in the competition, we see it dominated by teams from africa and europe with UAE being the sole asian representative. presumabely this makes travel easier to throw nepal out of the competition. the same report also says that 'nepal was given a chance to qualify' sice we are 'the only country inside the top 8 based on the longer version' who did not get an automatic invite.
btw, there are 8 teams in the intercontinental cup, and nepal is ranked 7 among associates. netherlands are ranked 8, and they get an automatic ticket
namibia is ranked 9, and they get home-field advantage as well as the luxury of qualifying with a draw
all i can say is
WTF!!!!!
nepal seriously needs a better voice at the ICC table
and one of the biggest priorities of CAN has to be to ensure that nepal dosent get shafted like this in the future

Hey Nuite bro,

No need to be so upset so early. It's not true that "namibia dosent need a win in this geme all they need is a draw to go through ". In case of draw, then the side gaining the most bonus points will go through to play Intercontinental cup.
We just need to get them all out cheaply and make a huge score in reply without losing too many wickets and get as many bonus point as possible.

How Namibian Media report Nepalis cricket........(From SPORTS NAMIBIA)

Kotze brothers come to Namibia’s rescue

An unbroken 70-run partnership between the Kotze brothers, Deon and Bjorn saved Namibia’s blushes on the opening day of their ICC intercontinental qualifying match against Nepal at Windhoek’s Wanderers field on March 24, 2006.

Bjorn joined his elder brother Deon after tea with Namibia in a spot of bother at 175/6.
But they managed to see out the final session and took Namibia’s total to 240/6 at the end of the first day’s play.

A whole day’s play was lost due to a muddy outfield on March 23, caused by recent rains, with the result that the match started half an hour earlier on March 24. The pressure was on Nepal to try and win the match because a draw would see Namibia through to the ICC Intercontinental Cup proper since they have a higher world ranking.
Nepal’s medium pace bowler Aamir Akmar made an early breakthrough when he dismissed Dawid Botha for 10 and Sarel Burger for a duck to leave Namibia struggling at 32/2.

Basant Regmy then took two wickets in quick succession, dismissing Louis Burger for 5 and JB Burger for 45 to leave Namibia teetering at 60/4.
Deon Kotze and Gerrie Snyman however stabilised the innings with a 97-run partnership. Kotze played the anchor role, reaching his 50 off 133 balls, while Snyman was more adventurous, scoring 60 (4x4, 2x6) off 95 balls before he was dismissed LBW by Mahaboob Alam.

Just before the tea break Alam struck another blow, bowling Stefan Swanepoel for 4 to leave Namibia struggling at 175/6.
The Kotze brothers however regained the initiative with their partnership and at the close of play Namibia had reached 240/6 with Deon not out on 90 and Bjorn not out on 28.
The team that wins this match will join Ireland, Scotland and the United Arab Emirates in Group A of the ICC Intercontinental Cup, with the first matches scheduled to take place in May against Scotland and the defending champions, Ireland.

अब नेपालको chances एकदमै कम देख्छु म। दोस्रो दिनपछीको स्कोरकार्ड हेर्दा its pretty clear that theres really no way we're gonna win this match. we may still lose it, but a win is out the question
unless something miraculous happens. that is
like somehow we manage to knock namibia over for less than 100 or so
and while they say that it aint over till the fat lady sings, i guess shes proly warming up her vocal chords right about now
so goodbyt to the intercontinental cup
damn the ICC and their biased scheme. to think that entry to such an important league is decided partially by 'cost-effective scheduling factors' rather than on merit alone

Win looks like out of question however I am hopeful that Nepal can still pull up a draw out of this match.
Nepal's batting has once again demarred their chance of winning. Getting them out for 272 is still a good effort by the bowlers I would say, although we could have restricted them well below 150. But then they say, there is no place for "if" s and "But"s in cricket. Looks like they are gonna enforce a target of 200+ for us ot win. Nepal should be able to bat out the rest of the fourth day and draw the match.

.
the thing is
a draw is as good as a loss
dont give us jack-squat
yeah, in all likeliness this games gonna be drawn
at the moment, namibia are ahead on points as well
so its in their interest to bat as long as possible and make sure the game is drawn
and i believe thats exactly whats gonna happen

you know, i fully believe that the ICC is gonna keep on coming up with asinine tournament formats that minimize the chance for supposedly 'lower tier' teams to come thru to major competitions. its a fact thats not gonna change anytime soon. so CAN seriously needs to look at options other than what the ICC is gonna provide it for development

with cricket-crazy india as a neighbour, i find it hard to believe that CAN would find it too difficult to gain corporate sponsorship in organizing local tournaments. CAN needs to partner up with malaysia and other south-east asian countries to create a league that will give us regular exposure to competitive cricket at a high level (altho as one observer noted, we have been trashing local competition regularly.. the last 2 times we played malaysia we won both matches easily.. one by 10 wickets, the other by an innings and something. we also beat the UAE the last time we played them)

so maybe another option CAN should look at is competing with first-class teams from india (the ranji trophy kind). or if that is anathema for us I HATE FKING DHOTIS folk, maybe the pakistani league, or even the bangladeshi league

the fact is that without regular competition at the higest level, our team will not be able to grab the few opportunities the ICC throws at us ever-so-magnanimously. imagine a well-tuned nepali team that had regular cricket. we would have killed namibia and forced the ICC's hand. as it is, an underprepared team goes to namibia, and turns in a limp performance on away soil. and the powers-that-be sitting in those high chairs in the ICC say 'you see, nepal dont deserve to be here' when the fact of the matter is, if the namibians had come to kathmandu, we would proly had massacared them.
just like we massacared the UAE the last time they were here
and SURPRISE! the uae gets an automatic ticket into the intercontinental cup

is it because they are a better team?
or is it because the fu.king ICC is based in DUBAI?
hmmmm.........

.the latest from cricketnepal:
namibia 2nd innings: 239/6 declared, setting nepal a target of 368 runs to win in 40 overs
so thats that
the intercontinental dream is officially over
thank you very much ICC for a fair and balanced chance to compete in the league
this sets us way behind the other top associates
while they will be playing competitive cricket, we will bw stuck thrashing the likes of malaysia and hongkong and singapore in meaningless matches that build up the ego without building any skill
and we know that with the uncertainty in nepal there is vey little chance of a good domestic league being set up
i had so hoped that the momentum gained with the u-19 exploits could be carried forward, but it seems to me that we have lost the plot here. sad

.
i dont know about namibia necessarily being better than we are
had the match been played at TU stadium with 15000+ nepali folk baying for namibian blood, maybe things would have gone different
who knows
but the fact remains that UAE, who nepal beat rather convincingly the last time the two teams met, is an automatic selection for the competition while nepal now sits on the sidelines. something very unfair about that. and if the ICC is really serious about spreading the game all over the world, they should have actually preferred nepal, with a 100% nepali team, over someone like canada or UAE who are filled with south asian expats.
but then again, i never really expected the ICC to make intelligent decisions
it has a history of fking up
now its up to CAN to take up the initiative to further nepali cricket. let the ICC have their precious intercontinental cup. nepal should participate in domestic leagues in the subcontinent. and in the next few years, leapfrog over all the associates.
GO NEPAL
