Apocalypse? 13 and counting

I had never had an opportunity to be part of a revolutionary movement that was about to change the geography of Nepali politics. Not yet. Hundreds of thousands of Nepalese people were marching for revolution .A revolution that they believed in. However it was difficult to understand the plight of these marching bands unless you saw for yourself.
The overnight sky above the kingdom was filled with majestic display of lighting and thunder .The winds that blew across the valley had a chilling effect and provided a brief reprieve .The country had bathed in the cool rain for almost 12 hours. The morning sky of day 13th was greeted by soothing rain .I decided to see for my self the plight of a revolution that was about to be the largest of it’s kind in the modern era.
Revolutionary surrounded the peripheral of ring road. They ranged from journalist, medical professionals, human right activists to even disabled and elderly people .The morning of each bandh day always brought a frenzy. The small traffic of motorbike and bicycle greeted the exhausted markets. People queued to purchase the bare necessitates. Salt, medicine, LPG gas and perhaps the newspaper. The market had been exhausted due to the band. What was available had quadrupled. This reclined most people to rely on more modest meals like wai wai and biscuit. No goods had been reportedly been delivered during the last 12 days.
The day often began with security force greeting us with cry of curfew and dire consequences. Within a span of few minutes the streets was filled with revolutionary songs and cries .The pro democracy movement estimated to be more than a million people began to flow like a swarm of angry red ants with a purpose. The security forces showed them their commitment with brutal beating, tear gas, firing of water cannon and rubber and live bullet. Young revolutionary burned tires, hurled rocks and abuses, as they were no other retaliatory option available. CNN, BBC and even some Chinese and Japanese news agency on the streets were putting Nepal on the world map with often bias interpretation .On the other hand major humanitarian agency were talking about a possible sanction for those involved in heinous acts. It was difficult to understand their logic to sanction an already improvised nation. The revolution often reminded me of a similar sort that took place last year. The Ukraine’s orange revolution had had a similar impact.
!3 days and counting .The prospect of any other reprisal looks like a distant outcome .There has been no word from the king as yet for any definite action .People are still clinging on their revolutionary songs and hoping for a better Nepal .Even young children as young as 8 have bore the bunt of today’s event .Some are in hospital clutching their bandaged head . Few are modest about being a revolutionary Rambo and some just want to go home and watch Wayne Rooney. The evening about brought a sense of reprieve .The pavement of durbar marg is surrounded by revolutionary tourist comprised of News crew, Human rights officials, Foreign delegates and feudal class of Nepali society who want to drain themselves with Jack Daniels. I was never so certain of the contrasting rung of Nepali society.
I always knew that politics was a dirty game, a science that always relied on bare assumptions and no definite outcome .I still don’t understand politics and want to keep myself a further distant. But what I do understand is that the revolutionary cry sung by the people demanded for a change. A change for better Nepal .So, it would be wrong to play with their impulse and sentiments .Any one in charge for tomorrow should not play a failed game. Cause this time no one will be spared.
I head back home after an 8-hour journey to watch Marylyn Brando and Martin Sheen in Apocalypse Now. It’s my fifth time and it only gets better.
