Mexico, Guatemala, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Honduras, Trinidad & Tobago, Jamaica, Haiti, Canada, USA, Panama, etc all come under North American continent.

ok makar tantra. i will take your argument. but i m not buying bidhan bro's argument that US play against weaker teams to come out as winner which helps them to boost their ranking. although i dont follow US soccer much, i m sure they must have beaten good teams in the past that have helped them to stand at no 5.

Another Spin to this rankin is, that particular ranking was sponsored by COCA COLA...so, I dunno if there was any bias on the rankings.....However, I gotta agree with Bidhan....USA plays against a weak conference teams....and thus a higher ranking....How many good European countries are not in this World Cup??? Think about it...there were several World Cups where Yugoslavia, Holland or the likes have missed it, since they play in such a tough conference ! Just my two cents !

so last eight years result are kept in record for the ranking..i dont know how US has been performing for the last 8 yrs hai.

-Scaling up the point ranking by a factor of ten
-Changing the calculation to take into account:
a) Number of goals
b) Home or away match
c)Importance of match/competition
d) Regional strength
-Not having fixed points for a victory or a draw
-Allowing the match losers to earn points


sub-points a, b, c and d pretty much justify how US might have earned those important points for standing at 5.
