I was looking for some info to buy digital camera. Following bbc information found useful.

Pixel = Picture Element
MegaPixels(MP) = Million of pixel

Megapixels is important for viewing and editing picture

3 MP = enough for 6 * 4 size picture printing quality
5 MP = A4 size picture printing quality
more than 6 MP = good enough for poster size printing quality

Optical Zoom matter and than digital zoom. Go for optical zoom feature

more the pixels better is the camera. memory, audio, video and value for money are other facilities that i will be looking for which lacks in some digital cameras.

last year in britian for the first time in history digital cameras outsold analogue camera.

By the way what camera do you all prefer. DIGITAL OR ANALOGUE

And larger number of pixels means larger file size to store! If you take pictures at 6MP resolution, the resulting JPEG file may be about 3 MB in size (it actually depends on the scene being photographed as well as compression setting of your camera). For a 4" x 6" printout, the 3MP resolution is sufficient as raru has noted (but it doesn't hurt to have a camera with 6MP or higher resolution, because you can adjust the actual resolution before taking a shot). If you view it online on your computer monitor and don't ever make a printout, then even a smaller resolution is sufficient (only 1MP is sufficient for a picture to be viewed full-screen on a XGA monitor).

The following is an information for a non SPAMmer. If you are a SPAMmer (corrupt politician and terrorist) you are prohibited to read this. Die SPAMmers.

The size of camera matters a lot. Nothing bulky if you are not a professional. Kodak has some "inside optical zoom" in V610. V610 is next generation camera. The only thing with Kodak is it's a little shaky and picture quality is not the best. But again, go for Kodak if you want cheap stuff and normal quality.

If you want High Quality and High price than wait for Sony to come out with something to match V610 (which I doubt will come out any time in next 6-10 months).

So the best option is V610...and with a price of USD 400 or about (and say another USD 200 for extending the memory and battery) this is the best option.

P.S.: SPAMmers if you read the above please committ suicide as this is coming from a Royalist and believer in Democracy and not terrorism like you all.

Hi there Raru,

What is your ideal specification ?

Well, persoannly I would strongly reccommnd you Fujifilm ,F30, if you are those sort who is happy to shoot wihtout fiddling around with aperature and shutter settings. If you do prefer some control, then it does have aperature and shutter priority function.

Compare to most of the cameras in the market, I can tell you this : This is the best in its class and in terms of noise , it is even in the leggue of DSLR !!!

Raru, if you are thnkking of buying Panasonic, avoid it at all cost as this brand has one of the highest noise level evevn if the photo is taken with low ISO.

1) Dont buy anything that has more than 5 m-pixel coz u will never use it (unless u are planning to print out life-size posters)

2) Dont buy something that has less than 5 optical zoom (digital zoom doesnt count/ its not of use)

3) Then look for memory. the more the better. 150+ will be ideal. 300 + is even better coz u can take longer moving pics as well.

Of course there are other things like battery life and screen size. Screen size is the least important to me coz you will ultimately view the pics in computer. Compact size will cost you more but is worth it.

good cluck

I think you should go for no less than 5MP, but 7, 7.2 are the best for general purpose. You can't believe it, how good the pictures are with 7.2MP camera, amazing as compared to 5MP. More than 8MP might be the waste of money if you are not professonal one. If you need cheaper, then go for Kodak, but Sony provides with better quality though little bit expensive.

You should buy at least 1GM memory stick/card if you have 7-8MP digital camera. For 5MP, you should have at least 512MB stick/card that stores around 200 or little more pictures with 5MP resolution. Never take any picture of resolution less than 5MP. If some picture does not come out good, you can simply delete them and make space.

Raru, alternative model which might interest you is Canon A700. But then I still feel that Fujifilm F30 is the best for you.

Do you guys know any method or softare to remove noise from the movie clips taken from a digital camera? Also share the methods of reducing the size ( MP) of such clips without much loss in quality. I know there is windows movie maker. But it reduces the quality a lot.

For the camera,

Given a choice, I would go for Canon A700 rather than Fuji f30. If you satisfy with lower zoom go for A610 which is cheaper and not bad either. If you want great zoom moderate pixels in moderate price go for Canon S3 IS.

Give it a serious thought on this camera. As far as I have seen the models of the cameras, none of the models comes close when it comes to good noise control - not even Canon's S3, though it costs more.

Here the recommended camera for oyur viewing.

human eye cannot detect anything higher than 3 mega pixels even as far as printing out huge pictures is concerned. So dont go for anything higher than 3 mega pixels. 10 years ago anything higherthan 3 mpx wasnt conceivable except in large scale printing and now households ue it!!!! wow.....so if cost is directly related to mega pixels and not functionality....DONT go higher than 3 mega pixels. It'll save u money for accesorizing.....such as getting your own colour printer?...depends on your ease of use......but heed m suggestion ive never found the diff between my 1.6 mega pixel digi/video cam and my rich friend's 6 mega pixels........and my eyes are pretty darn good.
hope that helps....i dont mean to be condescending to any other person in this thread...i respect all opinions....
