My Dell Inspiron 8500 laptop has some display problem. The screen is shaky and blur. When I connect to external monitor it works fine. Any suggestion how I can fix it ? Can you suggest any laptop repair center ? I am in DC area. Thank you for your help.

in that case too, you still might want to call Dell and tell them your problem. They will probably suggest you on what to do and might still send technical team at your place BUT the cost is high, i will tell you that. Unless you have a computer whiz friend who can get fix your LCD once you get them from DELL. call them though.

if i were you, i would open the LCD and try to fix the crystal and color IC chip manually with a soldering rod and a voltmeter. you can pull up a circuit diagram of the LCD from google and try to see the voltage levels. Americans are too lazy and the labor cost is surmounting each day. since you are out of warranty, they will probably offer you a new LCD at half a price of the laptop haha. its irritating, isn't it? well, welcome to america!! hehe Loote

Nepalibhai, Here is what you can do. Go to www.ebay.com. Get inspirion 8500 or b130. It can be any cheap insperion with low speed/memory. When you get the laptop, open it, disconnect the LCD monitor. Open your inspirion 8500 and disconnect the monitor. replace it with the working monitor. You should be all set! if you are not, you got screwed. Think about the slogan, Dude! you got a dell. and if your laptop doesn't work say this to your self dude! I got screwed

I got the same problem with my Inspiron Laptop too. But i realised that i was keeping my computer on all the time wihout screen saver. So when i started using it just when i need it it works just fine. I think it has something to do with keeping it on for too long. At least that appeared to be the problem on my computer. Try shutting it off and letting it cool down every now and then and see if it works. But if u need ur laptop on all the time, just go buy another one....they are about 500.00 rt now i think.

sid is right. i have also found that most of the laptop users keep their machine ON ALL the time. that's BAD. although electricity is not much costly here in comaprison to what you earn, you need to give the laptop a complete rest whenever possible, its a MACHINE after all. okay, if you are TOO lazy to shut down and reboot, then one better thing that you can do is go to the power management console and define some better power saving schemes. for instance, run the screen saver after going idle for say 2 minutes. and turn off the hard disk after say 30 minutes. know what i am saying? its always better to provide maximum power comfort to the machine. Dell, in spite of the power problem, is an excellent machine when handled properly. Loote
