A Nepali man who married six women but drove each away after they failed to give him a son has achieved his aim with his seventh wife who gave birth to twins, state-run media reported in Nepal.

Lal Bahadur Biswokarma first married at 13, and wed again at 20, 22, 30, 35, 55 and finally married the mother of his two sons at the age of 64, RSS news agency reported.

"Who will take care of me in my old age if I don't have a son?" Biswokarma told the news agency.

"The reason I married many times is to have a son who could perform my funeral rites," he said.

The 65-year-old drove away his previous six wives by mistreating them, the news agency reported.

"My desire is fulfilled. I am not going to marry again," he said.

In Nepal, like many other South Asian countries, sons are cherished while daughters are seen as a burden.

If he drove the first six wives away by "mistreating them" he should be taken to court for the mistreatment, and not celebrated by the media like this.
