From the current issue of Foreign Policy magazine.

The Globalization Index
By FOREIGN POLICY & A.T. Kearney

November/December 2006

It’s a small world, and globalization is making it smaller, even in the face of conflict and chaos. For the sixth year, FP, in collaboration with A.T. Kearney, sorts out globalization’s winners and losers. Find out which countries come out on top and which ones are falling behind.

Recent months have offered plenty of fresh evidence that the world is falling apart. Conflict in the Middle East, a nuclear stalemate between Iran and the West, perilously high oil prices, and the collapse of the Doha round of global trade talks all suggest a world that has gone off the rails. In this volatile environment, isolation has a powerful appeal.

Why should states bind themselves more firmly to such an unstable political and economic order? Why would they willingly court greater reliance on foreign producers and politicians? Why, in short, should they want globalization?

Part of the answer is that the daily headlines that report each new crisis or conflict miss the gradual but often profound currents of global integration that lurk beneath the surface. Fractious though the world may be, globalization still has much to offer, and a momentum of its own. The annual A.T. Kearney/FOREIGN POLICY Globalization Index examines the underlying international trends that reveal whether the world’s leading nations are becoming more or less globally connected.

captain, i just found out something about you :P that you're color blind...like most guys :D

on serious note, i think globalization is helping to decentralize the money around the world, that was concentrated in one place before, that is in US. singapore still seems to be on the top primarily because of its small manageable size and its dominance on telecommunication.

and the "plastic" is sure going to make life comfortable for most people around the world...

Sajhauser -

LOL! I don't know how that color can be considered anything but blue :) The middle color has a bit of greenish tinge to it, and could fall right on the border, but hey I'd still say it is a wee bit blue :). The dark color at the bottom has gotta be blue!

I was at the RMV a while ago and they passed me for green, amber and red color recognition :P

But true, I guess color perception varies by person - I didn't realize there was a gender pattern there and that's certainly interesting to know. Softens the blow a little bit - he he he

:)

Have a good one!

Globalization is only Good and benefit to Capitalistic and Rich countries.

It is NIGHTMARE to poor and the poorest countries like BHUTAN, NEPAL, AFRICA, CENTRAL AMERICA etc.

Rich countries make poor countries Slaves country wise. It is new way to make country slave. That's all.

"Rich countries make poor countries Slaves country wise. It is new way to make country slave. That's all. "

They can make poorer countries rich too - take China and India for example- never before in human history have so many people been lifted out of poverty as has happened in China. Thanks in large part to globalization and the inflow of foreign money and technology. Sure, the benefits of globalization have not been evenly spread but to argue this in terms of slavery is a bit ridiculous in my opinion. Over time, these benefits are bound to spread out given the kind of world we live in.

Thapap ... I think it might be some color setting on the OS or resolution of the monitor on the machines we have. At work I have an Dell 600/ XP and at home Powerbook/OS X . On my XP machine that color resolved to dark blue but on my OSX - which has better graphic capabilities - it shows up as green which is closer to the true color.

I guess I was too accepting of sajhausers diagnosis - should have verified first :)

hahahhaha captain so you're not really color blind? so sad... I though I somehow got the power to diagnose people behind the computer screen :P check out
Testfor Color Blindness to make sure :P

thapap jiuuu,
hajur le rag gari bakse ko bhanthaneko kya :P
globalization(in terms of economy) has been possible only because of the internet. and telecom infrastructure of a country plays a vital role in the growth of the internet. and as you can see the top two countries rank #1 and #2 in telephone contact. teai bhanna khojeko ho... aba tyo bhanda badi malai tha chaina...badi rag nagari baksiyos hai :|
and better try the color blind test :P

captain haddock and sajhauser,
bad news.. ..
tyo color blind test ma ma fail. i have to go and get my eyes tested .. to make sure that i am not color blind. last four ta khali spots matrai dhekhe no numbers.... )O:

now getting back to poking hole in sajhausers theory,

hajur le bhanisiyeko kura alik milena:

yes you are right that telecommunication infra structure plays a vital role in terms of affordable internet access but that's not the restriction and it does not limit the actual abundance. Yes if its then it may be used but its not the only solution.
wireless is there. plus satellite medium is there.

to poke a bigger hole. i will use the above table itself. south korea in #25 in telephone; #2 in internet users and #13 in internet hosts. so in your theory south korea should be way below based on telephone hoina ta!!! how did it manage to be in or same level as switzerland or singapore.
we all know in terms of wireless usages; internet and computer advancement south korea is way ahead.
south korea was using SMS as a form of communication using wireless devices back in 1998 when in US we barely had affordable wireless phones. by 1999 they were using large messages i.e. more than 4k size messages (O: and in 2001 they were transmitting pictures over the phones... and in us when did it came prolly in 2004.

so your theory is not valid.

i agree that it is a basic requirement but not the lone determining factor (O:

=====================================================
as always
what do i know (O:

thapap jiuuu,

rag nagari baksiyos bhaneko ta jhan :@
color blind test ma fail bhayo? khucching :P better restrict yourself from driving :P

ofcourse it's not the only determining factor. if it was, then there wouldn't be other factors affecting globalization. and i wouldn't correlate internet users with telecom infrastructure, because there are plenty of internet users even in ktm, but there is no strong telecom infrastructure for globalized business in nepal.

congrats captain :D

afu lai ta "globalization" vanyo ki ...tyo diana ko accident wala joke ko yaad po aaucha ta :P

Here is it...

Question: What is the truest definition of Globalization?

Answer: Princess Diana’s death.

Question: How come?

Answer: An English princess with an Egyptian boyfriend crashes in a French tunnel, driving a German car with a Dutch engine, driven by a Belgian who was drunk on Scottish whisky, (check the bottle before you change the spelling) followed closely by Italian Paparazzi, on Japanese motorcycles; treated by an American doctor, using Brazilian medicines. This is sent to you by a NEPALI, using Bill Gates’s technology, and you’re probably reading this on your computer, that use Taiwanese chips, and a Korean monitor, assembled by Bangladeshi workers in a Singapore plant, transported by Indian lorry-drivers, hijacked by Indonesians, unloaded by Sicilian longshoremen, and trucked to you by Mexican illegals.....

That, my friends, is Globalization!!

:D

Thapap - Don't rely solely on the prognosis of online resources - seeing someone might be a good idea, wouldn't you agree?

Nepalkochora - LOL!

don't worry thapap jiu, i'm not happy about your color blindness...it was just my gesture to continue the previous sentence :P

and i don't think it's a major problem ke and it doesn't get worse with age. most obvious cause for color blindness is genetic. and you can obviously differentiate between red and green hoina? teti bhaye pugi halyo ni drive garna :D

wipe off your tears :( nobody's perfect...

captain, why waste time and money going to doc? many people are color blind and it's not even a problem...

Sajhauser - to confirm, get a second opinion, to determine the extent and degree of the condition, since you may need to change driving habits. I'd say it's well worth the time and the doctors fees. But yeah, it's not the end of the world.

Just my opinion.
