NEW DELHI, Nov 13 - Leaders striving to restore democracy in their respective countries have hailed the Nepal pro-democracy movement and said that the peace process in Nepal has inspired them to continue their struggle to instate democracy.
Leaders representing Pakistan, Myanmar, Bhutan, Bangladesh and Kenya to participate in Indian Social Forum in the Indian capital New Delhi expressed their utmost respect to the people of Nepal for being able to achieve such a landmark success.
Participating leaders hailed Nepal's peace process speaking on one of the segments of the forum: New Nepal Showing the Way.
Karamat Ali, a leader who has been struggling to restore democracy in Pakistan, said, "I salute the people of Nepal for their courage and solidarity."
Karamat Ali, executive director of Pakistan Institute of Labour Education and Research, said that people and political parties of Nepal have taught a new lesson to the world by exhibiting solidarity to fight against oligarchy.
Citing Pakistan's example, Ali said that it was disappointing that people of Pakistan have not been able to unite to fight against the military rule there. Ali said, "People of Bhutan, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Myanmar must learn a lesson from Nepal."
Ali who has closely observed Nepal's democratic movement said that now onwards, Nepal must rewrite the constitution to guarantee the fundamental rights of people of Nepal.
Dr Tint Swe of Myanmar's National League for Democracy congratulated Nepal for achieving such a mammoth success. Swe, who has been fighting to instate democracy in Myanmar for the last 15 years, questioned, "Is not this possible in Myanmar as well?"
Stating that people of Myanmar were overwhelmed by Nepal's success, Swe added, Nepal's success has convinced everyone around the world that if people unite, even the strongest of the oligarchy can be forced to kneel down.
Swe added, "We must learn from the agreement clinched between the seven political parties and the Maoists." Swe on behalf of the people of Myanmar also wished for a lasting peace in Nepal.
A social worker from Kenya, Yahukara said Nepalese people have written their fate themselves. "I salute people of Nepal on behalf of all the Kenyans and African countries," said Yahukara, adding, "The world has witnessed your (people of Nepal) victory and taught a lesson to the whole world."
President of the Bhutan Druk Congress Rong, Thong Kinley Dorjee said, "Nepal has set an example. We want to thank and congratulate Nepal for showing us countries, who have been struggling to restore democracy in our respective countries, a novel path."
