US Police Secretly Spied On Festival Fans

DEA and State police officials used hidden thermal imaging cameras and high-tech audio equipment to covertly monitor 50,000 revellers, US media reports revealed
this week.

Using night-vision cameras and microphones provided by surveillance company NS Microwave, cops were able to capture high definition images of individuals rolling cigarettes across 85% of the site, which NS suggested could be duplicated at all outdoor events.

"Just as light was being shed on the dying tide of raves, the music festival was being born (with) drugs for all," the company declared in a triumphant press release hailing their surveillance success.

"Now large festivals have been cropping up in every region of the country, what is the best way to control rampant illegal drugs?" NS added,While cops declared the Big Brother style spy technology a resounding success (local press reported that 140 drug-related arrests were made in total at the festival) Wakarusa festival organizer Brent Mosiman stressed he'd been shocked and alarmed by the underhand police tactics.

"We cannot tell you how truly sorry we are that these 'spying" issues occurred at Wakarusa this year and we sincerely apologize to everyone for any violations of your rights and privacy," Mr Mosiman said on their website this week.

"To give you some background, we were informed that there would be an increased law enforcement presence at this year's event. Initially, we were supportive of this when it was presented as an effort to increase the safety of everyone in attendance. It became apparent however that enforcement, not safety and security, was the true mission of the increased law enforcement.

We must make it perfectly clear that we did not know of any of the specific measures, tactics or instruments the various law enforcement agencies used at the event. More importantly, Wakarusa does not believe such tactics and equipment were necessary and does not support their use. If there are not significant assurances that similar procedures won't materialize in the future, we will not host another Wakarusa Music and
Camping Festival," he promised.

New York Men's Gay/ Straight Confusion

A new study of the sex lives of over 4,000 New York males has revealed
that over one in ten who identified themselves has heterosexual had sex
with a man in the last year, according to a report in the Annals of
Internal Medicine.

"Doctors need to ask patients about specific sexual practices instead
of relying on self-reported sexual orientation to assess risk for unsafe
sexual practices and risk for sexually transmitted diseases," said DR
Preeti Pathela, the author of the study.

"Public health prevention messages should not be framed to appeal
solely to gay-identified men."

New York club promoter Daniel Nardicio, who also runs social networking
website D-List (targeting 'the new gay; men in their early twenties to
thirties, who may live outside the gay ghetto, and though proud and not
afraid to flaunt their queerness, do not care to be classified as gay')
was unsurprised.

"New York is really pretty Latino and black, and both groups tend to
claim to be straight but have lots of gay sex and that ratio one in ten
seems about right to me", said Daniel. "If you go onto Craigslist and
put up a straight profile looking to fug a guy, you'd be amazed how many

America Busts Record Numbers Of Pot Smokers

The FBI published their annual Uniform Crime Report of offences in the
States this week and revealed that marijuana arrests reached an all
time high of 786,545 people in 2005, with over 696,000 busted for simple
pot possession.

Marijuana arrests made up 42% of all drug arrests, prompting an alarmed
response from civil liberties campaigners including Allen St. Pierre,
executive director of the National Organization for the Reform of
Marijuana Laws (NORML).

"These numbers belie the myth that police do not target and arrest
minor marijuana offenders," Mr St. Pierre told the Drug War Chronicle.
"This effort is a tremendous waste of criminal justice resources that
diverts law enforcement personnel away from focusing on serious and violent
crime, including the war on terrorism," he argued.

The Chronicle reported that pot busts have more than doubled from
380,000 in 1993, with dire punishments for individuals caught in the net.

"The consequences of a drug arrest don't end with handcuffs and jail
cells; it's important to remember that when these numbers come out every
year," said Tom Angell, communications director for Students for
Sensible Drug Policy (SSDP

"Even if people aren't being sent to jail for long periods, they still
suffer a great deal by losing access to public benefits and having
criminal records that will haunt them for the rest of their lives," he
pointed out.

The latest statistics emerged as former drug warrior turned
legalization advocate Peter Christ, of Law Enforcement Against Prohibition (LEAP),
continued his campaign against the drug war with a speech at the North
Branford Rotary Club, New Haven.

Mr Christ, a former drug squad cop who spent 12 years as an undercover
narcotics officer in New Jersey, said he busted over 1,000 individuals
principally through tricking and deceiving them.

"I changed everything about me except my skin color to fit in with
those individuals, became whatever they wanted me to be, their best friend,
their closest confidant, so I could betray them and send them to jail.
As soon as
I finished with one I would start with another. Friendship, betrayal,
jail, over and over again," Mr Christ confessed.

"I can't tell you how many of those people, mostly young, mostly poor,
probably mostly people of color, would have gone on to have a perfectly
good, healthy, happy lives had I not come across their path," he added.

40s Brits Made Love, Not War

Newly published data from Britain's first ever sex survey in 1949 has
revealed that 1 in five women had extra-marital affairs, while the same
proportion of men had homosexual sex and one in four, sex with
prostitutes.

The survey also said that many post war Brits 'pretended to be drunk'
