In a way i was lil taken aback by wat i saw in states........regarding the health system
i ve seen many of my friends(not only immigrants)going through tough time just becos they lack health insurance
i had 1 friend from nepol(oops nepal)who had exhibited certain psychiatric manifestations
but he was room-bound n left with his crippling ailment just becos he wasnt covered by insurance n going to private setup wasnt in his reach........

wen i compare n contrast this wid nepol's health system, though we dont have health insurance, reaching to doctors isnt beyond our reach.make a 10 rs. opd card in govt. hospital n the doc is there to see u.even its not that expensive in pvt. setup until some lands into health-mafia who routinely orders the same expensive investigations irrespective of sign n symptoms just to get cuts(its famous word for commissions among docs).
may be becos of this the concept of medical-tourism came.
today western countries r outsourching their patients to cheaper countries like india where they get the same medical standard but with fairly low cost.isnt it irony?i think so....

Bikash Jiii

I am glad that you have pointed one REAL problem.
Student life in US isn’t easy in many ways, we really can’t compare life being a student in Nepal and US, they are just UN-COMPARABLE
Need of self financial support is the most critical factor overhere, In a way it is good that we don’t have to be dependent on parents money but at a times it can be a life challenging situation…
This is true for the most of the student living in US with their families…where scholarship and assistantship only covers the health insurance of student but not the dependent partner who is not allowed to work either by US law…

Bikash jii your friend’s case was luckily just a relationship problem which could be solved easily but I wanna share a something really sad but true incident which happened to one of my fren…

Here it goes……
Just married happy couple for two year....came to US for higher studies…. desperately waiting for baby as every couple do, but this wasn’t happening in real cause of health insurance…..sounds ridiculous but true……..

The problem is only he is covered by insurance but wife is NOT…. She is already living life at risk hoping that during her stay anything bad won’t happen and she won’t have to rush to Hospital…

Husband’s assistantship is good enough for them to survive but getting health insurance for her was beyond his reach at this point… so they were living life with compromise and fear BUT waiting for him to complete his studies and get a good job, good salary and then Baby (which equivalent to Happiness for them)

But once they came to know that she is pregnant and only option left is buying a health insurance otherwise they cant have Baby, critical situation isn’t it ????…………..This is something totally contrast to Nepal’s situation… where none goes through this trauma…

But, luckily, they found a reasonable solution, his wife was eligible to get admission into the college as a non-credit student and could get the health insurance within a affordable range but still this was something they wouldn’t have to do if they were in Nepal….

Now they already have baby of 5 month and living happily as they wished for … But this might not case always…..haina ta ???

In overall, I completely agree with Bikash jii,

It’s a lot easier to get medical access in poorly developed countries like Nepal compare to US, one might argue about quality of service( which I am hoping not a concern of this thread)….I guess we are talking about getting access to treatment not the quality of treatment…
Anyway good job, Liked to share ……Keep it up Saathii, !
Cheers,
