4 Date of Births, 3 Birthplaces, Who is This Moni Kumar Subba?

Congress leader and three-time MP, Moni Kumar Subba is the Member of Parliament from Tezpur, Assam. However, but he is Indian citizen or not, is not conformed yet. On this matter, the Supreme Court had asked Congress MP to prove that he is an Indian citizen and it has given Subba time till April 20 to prove his Indian nationality.

Further, the court has also criticized the Central government as well as the CBI for their careless approach into the investigation over the matter of Subba’s nationality.

Now, the CNN IBN has reported that over the years, there had been reports that Subba was, in fact, a murder convict in Nepal. He was imprisoned from 1971 to 1973 and later escaped to India.

The report has reveled that Subba started his life in India by lying about his place of birth and date of birth as well. In the Lok Sabha records, Subba is perhaps the only MP to have two different places of birth.

In the 12th Lok Sabha records, his birthplace was written as Tezpur, Assam with the date of birth as March 16, 1951. However, in the present 14th Lok Sabha record his birth place is written as Dabgram (Darjeeling) in West Bengal with the date of birth as March 16, 1958.

Later, during an investigation the CNN IBN has found nothing to confirm that it was Subba’s birthplace. On the other hand, in Assam it found Karma Kanu, Subba’s third wife during 1978 to 1991.

Moreover, an interview published in a Nepali Magazine, Rato Gham in November 1997, says that Subba had claimed earlier he was born in Mongolpuri, Delhi, in 1946.

Now, if we go with his entire saying about his date of birth and birthplace, Subba was born thrice, as in the year 1946, 1951 and again in 1958.

In the nomination paper for the last Lok Sabha elections in 2004, Subba declared his as 54 years. Later, in a counter-affidavit filed by him in the Supreme Court in 2005, he had declared his age as 47 years.

Now, if we look on all these records, the two-time MP Moni Kumar Subba was born four times at three different places.
