Hey Johnji,

I happened to catch the last show in the theater and found myself in the inspirational and content seat at the end of the movie. The agony of not been able to grow up with your siblings, the overwhelming adaptation to the new environment, living a lonely life in a foreign land despite having your own family gaudily dipicted in the movie, which by far are closer to the reality. Like you said, the characterizations and their executions are brilliant. I would say a 'must-see' movie or a 'must-read' book.

Again, loved how you have expressed through words. :-)

one Thing?
why most of the words here are very difficult to understand
Well if we write like these kinds of words or sentences in universities, we get poor remarks
Galt, plz from Next time do use simple sentences or words so that us can read it easily and dont need a dictionary for it
between nice one..
enjoy

If I were to go out to see that movie again, I would do so with either first generation or second generation Americans. 4 of us went to see the movie, 3 Causicians who have no idea what it feels to be an immigrant or children of immigrants. Not that they complained, but I could see bewilderment in their faces in many parts of the movies. One lives and learns.

I liked the book much more than the movie.

When I finished reading the book, the ending made me sad, in the movie, I got a happy feeling towards the end. The actors were fantastic, they all deserve an Oscar.

A must see movie for all.

"This is a story of two different generations, not two different cultures; we witness ourselves and our own Gogol everyday, even when we are not ethnically Indians".

I think it is of both. For those who are unable to grasp the cultural clash portrayed in the movie, they can certainly relate to the generational clash exhibited in it. For many of us, though, particularly those of South Asian origin, and perhaps for all other Asian immigrants, we could relate to both aspects of struggle to adapt and assimilate.

To say the movie was great would do injustice to the marvel of Mira Nair, Jhumpa Lahiri, Ifran Khan, Tabu, Kal Penn, and all others involved int he making of it. The movie was simply out of this world, beyond wordly adulations.
