Why did you need Naxi music for? Just curious. Since I am not into Chinese Min Ge (folk music), I have no idea how their music sounds like, but if you want to know their culture/tradition etc. here's a book that you might enjoy reading: Forgotten Kingdom by Peter Goullart. It is the best amature ethnography you will ever read. If I can be of any help with your Naxi research please feel free to email me.

PG is great. I read his book when I was an undergrad student (and believe me its been a looooooooooooong time) and till today, I think its the best ethnography (if it can be called that) ever written. PG is I think one of the first westerners to write about Naxi, Dai and other minorities from the Yunnan region.

I haven't read Barbara Ehlriech though.

Just a question: Are you taking a class on antrhro, Chinese Studies, ethnic music etc? Is it a graduate class/undergraduate class? If the class is Naxi specific, I think you should check out the works of one acclaimed Naxi specialist in US, Emily Chao. She has written some interesting articles on Naxi culture and how it is changing as a result of Chinese economic development and toursim in the Yunnan area.

I am yet to visit Lijiang:-( But Lijiang and Sichuan Bana are definately on my travel list. Why don't we travel together and enjoy Huan Ke's music, what says you ? :-)
