"Wisdom consists in not being attached to the identity
or myth of who
you (think) you are so much you lose yourself in either
excess or
deprivation. So as the circumstances of your life swing from
one extreme to
the other, you merely sit at the centre and observe,
knowing that yang
inevitably turns to yin - fullness inevitably turns into
emptiness once it
reaches its zenith -so you sit there and watch amused
as your fortunes rise
and fall and rise again.

As you reach the zenith of the extreme of
either excess or deficit,
you'll witness transformation and it's in this
transformation that you
witness first hand your Tao (the Great Way) working
in your affairs -
therein lies the nub of wisdom.

The wiser and more
Tao-attuned you become, the more inclined you are to
contain your energy and
remain in the centre, whether in the throes of
excess or of poverty,
realizing that both extremes are simply effects
of the external world and in
themselves mean nothing. So you carry your
wisdom with you no matter the
external circumstances.

You have to go with it while it's happening to
gain full value from
being alive and if where it's taking you is into
excess, you go there,
observing from the centre all the while, knowing that
after excess comes
decrease, so not attaching to the fruits, always to the
tree."

Ecstasy Users Really Do Love Each Other

Australian scientists who
tested ecstasy on rats announced this week
that the rodents became unusually
friendly and tended to 'lie next to
each other and chill out', according to
a report in the New Scientist.

Study chief Iain McGregor from University
of Sydney speculated that the
rats' loved-up behaviour was caused by a surge
in oxytocin, the hormone
often associated with human couples falling in
love.

"It's interesting that guys on ecstasy feel more sensual than
sexual,"
Mr McGregor told the New Scientist. "It could be that raising
oxytocin
levels puts them in that sort of post-orgasmic state where they're

actually not very good at performing sexually but they feel really good

about the person they're with," he suggested.

His comments struck a
chord with the views of style="CURSOR: hand; BORDER-BOTTOM: #0066cc 1px dashed; HEIGHT: 1em">Bloc
Party
singer Kele
Okereke who this week chatted about using E in an
interview with Uncut
magazine.

"The drug I do enjoy taking is
ecstasy, which gives a real sense of
euphoria," the indie pop star said, "It
makes your senses so much more
acute. It makes music sound so powerful. And
it makes touch incredibly
sensual. You know, every touch is orgasmic," (the
singer also stressed
he'd stopped using drugs over 12 months ago).

A
previous study of oxytocin by University of Zurich researchers in
2005 (on
humans) revealed that people given the hormone both promoted
interaction
between people, making them significantly more trusting and no
longer
frightened of betrayal. The effect was so strong, Nature
Magazine reported,
that unprincipled politicians could be easily tempted into
spraying crowds
with oxytocin at rallies, to manipulate voters' trust.

"The scenario may
be rather too close to reality for comfort, but those
with such fears should
note that current marketing techniques - for
political and other products -
may well exert their effects through the
natural release of molecules such
as oxytocin in response to well-crafted
stimuli," Dr Antonio Damasio of the
Department of Neurology told
Nature.

"Civic alarm at such abuses
should have started long before this
study," he added (BBC)

Philippine Cops' So Macho Stance

Top style="BACKGROUND: none transparent scroll repeat 0% 0%; CURSOR: hand; BORDER-BOTTOM: #0066cc 1px dashed; HEIGHT: 1em">Philippines
cop chief superintendent Samuel Pagdilao issued a
bizarre dictat to local
cops this week, threatening to sack them if they in
any way act
gay.

"If they sway their hips while marching, or if they engage in
lustful
conduct, I think that will be a ground for separation," the
Philippine
National Police spokesman chief told reporters, "If they behave
within
the norm, I don't think we'll have a problem."

His
announcement surprised new Skrufff man-in-Manila Ed Cruz, who said
gay cops
are 'pretty much straight acting'.

"There are few gay cops around but
they're all very discreet - and if
they happen to make the wrong move in
making themselves obvious, it's
either they quit their job or face endless
ridicule," Ed said. "What's
more recognizable here are cops with many
mistresses."

Drug Users Face Higher Prison Rape Risk

US Civil rights organization
Stop Prisoner Rape (SPR) published a report explicitly linking the War on Drugs
with the epidemic of sexual violence in America's prison system this week, and
said people convicted of  non-violent drug offences are most at risk of
attack.

"Anyone can become a victim of prisoner rape, but non-violent
drug offenders who are unschooled in the ways of prison life tend to be
targeted," said Lovisa Stannow, SPR's Co-Executive Director, "Especially when
they are housed in cramped cells or in poorly monitored dormitories that were
never meant to hold inmates in the first place."

'Stories from Inside'
documents 24 harrowing first hand accounts from non-violent drug offenders who
were sexually assaulted, such as Bryson Martel, who was repeatedly raped by 25
inmates in an Arkansas jail, and contracted HIV. The report says one in five
(20%) men and one in four (25%) of women inside America's vast gulag have been
attacked with women most at risk of attack by guards and men from fellow
prisoners.

However, Dr. Terry Kupers, a psychiatrist specializing in
mental health in prisons, told Drug War Chronicle he disagreed with the
statistics.

"I think the 20% figure is low for a couple of reasons.
First, people don't report because they're afraid of the stigma. Men feel it is
unmanly and won't admit it. There is also the fear of retaliation in prison,
whether from staff or other prisoners," he pointed out.

"Secondly, a lot
of sexual activity is not defined as rape by the participants. A young and fair
male enters prison and is told by an older prisoner 'I'm going to have sex with
you, and if you agree I won't beat you up and I'll protect you from other
prisoners.' The young man agrees
and becomes a 'willing' partner, but it's
rape, it's coerced out of fear. These guys might say they're not being raped,
but they are," he pointed out.

Meanwhile in the style="CURSOR: hand; BORDER-BOTTOM: #0066cc 1px dashed; HEIGHT: 1em">UK,
former head of the prison service Martin Narey warned that Britain is rapidly
heading towards American levels of  imprisonment with 'meltdown' in the
prison system imminent.

"I wouldn't be surprised at all if by 2010 there
were 100,000 people in prison," he told the Guardian.

"I think there is
every chance that, at the end of the decade, we will look back nostalgically at
a figure of 80,000. The US experience shows there is no end to
this."

Oops looks like you must have posted when the HTML tag generator was having issues :)

I don't have anything to say about the latter posts. I cant believe you put out stuff like that and I get a chuckle out of some of that stuff every now and then. But the first one did catch my eye. Based on my own learnings, I guess it is a combination of excess as well as variety. The former giving you depth and the latter length and breadth. Both types of learnings are essential and compliment each other.

Aight, my head hurts from the deep thinking :P

Take care.

:)
