Batuwa ji,

I need to get my Girlfriend admitted for a Bachelor Degree here in US. She did a 3 years nursing in Nepal and has been working there. Any help regarding what would be good and affordable schools in US, admissions requirement, (TOEFL etc...), any other examinations would be greatly appreciated.

Please, Please.

Thanks

Mr. Gameboy32, if you badly want her to pusue BSN degree in the USA. Follow my advices. Read the following scenarios described below and decide what is best thing to do for her at the present moment and in future time line.

Option One: apply for to Stae board of nursing to find out the NCLEX exam eligibility from Nepal.

Accoring to you, she already got Certificate in Nursing, which is I think is three years program in Nepal, I believe she has a required qualification to apply in state board of nursing to make her eligible for NCLEX exam. After the completed application submission, she would find out whether she is eligible outright or need some remedial courses in order to be eligible for NCLEX. Now days, NCLEX exam can be taken in four test centers in India, so she should be able to register for NCLEX even from Nepal but she must declare the US State where she would like to get licensed and apply in that State of Jurisdiction. That State of Jurisdiction also known as State Board of Nursing probably takes six months or so to evaluate and decide completed submitted application for NCLEX exam eligibiility. In my personal opinion, this option works pretty well for someone not only who has either four years bachelors degree in Nursing or two years of Bachelor in Nursing (like TU) plus three years of certificate in Nursing, but also who is pretty good in english.

The bottom line is if she can pass the NCLEX exam and get licensed, she could get job in hospital who is willing to sponsor for her Green card. And she can apply for the Permanent Residency in US Embassy Kathmandu Nepal if visa numbers are current and available. Hard word and dedication will pay her eventually if she could do it this way. On the other hand, you can always opt her to apply for BSN as you mentioned.

By the way having US Registered Nursing licencse qualifies somoeone like her to apply in university as a RN-BSN student, where she gets the nursing credits for her all lower division nursing courses. Still, she has to complete all the general knowledge requirement courses.

Option Two: Apply for BSN program in US university. I don't know how international evaluator from US universities evaluates her certificate in nursing degree, just as a 10+2 equivalent degree or vocational degree. I am pretty sure if she got certificate in Nursing degree after her S.L.C., her qualification is just as 10+2. In that case, she would be considered as freshman student in university. Anyway, she could apply as a Pre-Nursing BSN student. The requirements to get accepted into pre-nursing is same as in other major. Without nursing license, changing Pre-nursing major to Nursing major is not easy task because more students apply for nursing major but few seats are available for admission in nursing as a major.

Good thing about in option two is that she can come to the US ( I assume she could get through the student visa process) and together as BF and GF you both can build up family very quick (LOL!!!). Unless you have saved big fortune to support her, she is gonna have hell of big time both as a full time F1 student and emotionally involved GF.

Finally, no matter what option you decide or she chooses, english is must in both cases. Option requires the visa screen certificate from CGFSNS where she must pass certain score in Toefl Writing, Reading, Speaking, Listening or othe equivalent english test.

Try the following link for nursing program, which I found by googling.

Good luck

gameboy32,

if BSN is all you are looking for, research on newman university, wichita, kansas. it's a private catholic college, not too cheap (i believe there are scholarships though), quite a few nepalis there and it should get the job done, i.e. BSN close to missouri.

gameboy32, i knew a couple but i don't live in the midwest anymore. my advice to you is to call the nursing department and inquire about the program. also you can contact Ami Larrea at 316-942-4291, ext. 2487 for international admission. she has dealt with nepalis around wichita and i am very sure she can put you in touch with at least one nepali student @ newman. the college is a tiny campus compared to the other universities but like i said before, it should get the job done!!!

SIUE i believe is a good school but pretty expensive, also chances of finding any on campus job for survival is pretty tough over there.

Correct me if I am mistaken.

Thanks metallica
