A macabre portraying devilish intention of a psychopath who sadistically savors the blood of docile nymphets, an avid gamer turn a claustrophobic who fears monsters of iniquity or depravity, a couple stranded on a secluded rest stop who are stalked by a serial killer and a professor turn a cannibal who nonchalantly brags the homicide of a hundred. These were small narratives of the flicks I have reluctantly watched recently. I am neither a sadist nor a brute. I don’t have any reservations for thrills of such genre either.

I have been watching these movies with a company. My roommate who is a movie fanatic has developed this itch which I call an obsession with the gore. I don’t think he is sadomasochist either because the transition from the fictions was a result of saturated figment of imagination. Prior to that, the contrabands and entourage of drug lords on screen used to be a matter of interest. A grotesque coincidence, I should admit that all the genres depict harsh vehemence and brutish ambitions of feverish minds.

"Movies are movies, the reel life dawg!” this is what he tells me when I inquire about the inclination to the sort. What seems erratic is his attire which depicts half gothic with influences from the movies and music he has the penchant for. The drumbeat woofer from a dud television which we managed to circuit to the computer has been throbbing with ululations. The room certainly has been lamenting the death and celebrating the spawn of the zombies.

As a movie buff too ‘the Clint Eastwoods’, the ‘Tom Hanks’ and flicks with portrayal of humanity have my reservations. But of late I have been watching the heinous corpus delicti of some inexorable maniac who gleefully operates on innocent victims. “A movie is a movie, can’t be inimitable”, that’s what he tells me which compels me into watching them. Frankenstein couldn’t be my favorite on screen character, but it’s his. “Look at the graphic portrayal of the characters, the amputations! They make it look so real”. The genuineness of the incidents on screen is an astounding watch for him and the modus operandi of the killers a thrill. To me it’s my acquiescence to a roommate’s eccentricity.

What seems astonishing is his obsession with the movies has influenced some of our mutual friends. They now show up frequently couching for a real thrill with free cold drinks. I would give myself a second name and that would be ‘victimized’. The metamorphosis of a cozy room and a little work place to a shuddering creeps and late night stays has surely affected the sleeps of a victim.

The transition of the crib to a theater with jitters could be gripping to some and pain for few. But I must appreciate the thrills which I have experienced. While the mutual friends are all praises for the roommate, I have decided to move. As a token I have bought some movies for him. I hope he would be happy to take them than to lose a roommate and pay for the not so exorbitant rentals to the landlord.
