A friend of mine wants to go to US to work/study. Currently he is in Nepal. His field is Physiotherapy/Physical therapy. Since the demand for health care workers are so high in US at the moment, I figured finding a job is not a problem. He did his bachelors in Bangalore and is currently working in KTM. He also wants to Masters in his field. So my question is...what is the process of finding a job in US from Nepal? Also how does it work for employment authorizations, H-1B etc? Can he apply from US embassy in KTM? Or is it better to go to US to do the masters and do the OPT etc after it? Any help is much appreciated.

Hello Bhootman,

Scope of Physical Therapists (PT) is very high here in the US, but they are all Master Degree holder PTs. I'm not sure if there's any Bachelor's degree holder PTs practising, although there might be. Check/google PT board and you'll get more information on it. All I know about PT is:

1. it is a very competetive and an equally rewarding field.

2. you can easily and quickly get GC from this field, just like nursing.

3. Not every college/university offers PT degree and among the ones that do, they have a joint Bachelors and Masters PT program or just Masters PT program. But, you can online to be sure about it.

4. there could be come way through which you can practise as an assistant PT and your foreign Bachelors degree be evaluated here, but you might have to take the board certification exam to be able to do so.

5. regarding the H1b being sponsored from here, first google and find where Bachelors are accepted and then you can apply there.

Hope this helps. Good Luck to you or your friend, whoever is this info for.

-HF

Thank you HappyFace for your suggestions. I will definitely recommend this to my friend.

Bagbhalu, I think I know what you are trying to say. However if you look at the living standard in KTM, its not much. There is not much room to develop personally and professionally. A lot of my friends who chose to stay in Nepal are regretting that decision and are now looking to get out. If you are unhappy in US, you should do something about it, whether that may mean changing your scope/career or your locality. No one said life is easy.

Bhootman,

Please check this website http://www.fsbpt.org/ for more all the information regarding PT and practising PT with a foreign degree in the US. This is the government board's PT site and you can get every thing you want to know about PT here. Also, e-mail them if you have any further queries after going through this site and the information listed here.

Hope this helps.
