I have been using the STI Free cards ($2) from Himtel for a while. It usually works just fine; some static but most of the times gives me a good 24 minutes to Kathmandu. The last few times, however, it has been acting a little weird. I can hear what people in Nepal are saying, very clearly I might add, but people in Nepal can't hear me at all. It's like giving an international prank call. They keep going hello hello even when I speak. At first, I thought maybe my new phone had some stupid mute funtion but then I could call locally just fine. I am sorta thinking that our hi-fi switiching system in Nepal doesn't like the cheap american cards.

I was just wondering if anybody else have had a similar experience calling home.

As you know all prepaid calling cards uses VOIP, sometimes it is crystal clear and sometimes is worst. Minutes keeps going down if you redial it. The best is ask your friends and family to call you. I heard it is a buck for minute from NEpal and it is crystal clear. Think about it.
